ASA announced in this thread [webmasterworld.com] that there will be no Christmas gifts for AdSense publishers this year.

We really appreciate the work you all put into building great sites. However, we feel that gift-giving is not the most appropriate gesture this year given the current global economic climate.
I know you may be disappointed, but I hope you can understand our efforts to be fiscally responsible in these times.

ASA

To be fair, are you giving gifts to your clients, business partners, or employees this year?

What are your thoughts about Google canceling Christmas Gifts for Publishers?

Haven't had a real pressy for two years, how easy it is to fall from grace

Used to be in the big time for years, now I've slid down the scale to be among the great unwashed masses.

As Australia's most famous, revered and executed bandit [Ned Kelly] reputedly said on the gallows:

"Such is life"

Ian,

Hah! I'm dead set odds on favourite for a "Merry Christmas" email.

Well, erm, now how can I say this, um.

You probably had your christmas email already. It came a bit early and was heavily disguised... See this thread [webmasterworld.com] for details. Maybe you wanna check your spam filter for that lost email. ;-)

It's there somewhere in my inbox, seem to remember reading it in part in Mailwasher.

I am a member of "Red Sox Nation", kind of a fan club for the baseball team.

Today they sent a greeting email with warm wishes for the holiday, plus a link to this holiday card:

[boston.redsox.mlb.com...]

I bet it didn't cost them very much to let their fans know that they are appreciated. ;)

Way to go Ron. My sentiments exactly.

If Google do not do the same then clearly they have jerks at or near the top.

As you correctly said: It costs nothing!

However it is courteous.

First four years in a row we got a small gift and card, last year they cut our revenue in half and no gift or card.

Made it very crystal clear exactly how they feel about us even though we still are in the 7 figure range per year.

I received my first Adwords gift from Google today.

Card reads:

"In recognition of your six years with Adwords, We'd like to thank you for your business. Here's to you!

Gift includes:

Cookbook:
Title: {Keyword: Delicious}
Description: Culinary impressions from the Google kitchen

Kitchen Apron:
Black with the colored Google logo.

Book:
Title: Recipes for Success:
Description: Advanced Tips from Adwords Experts

No Adsense gift since I started in 2004.

If AdWords accounts got a present while AdSense accounts didn't, then ASA's reply seems a little disingenuous.

On the contrary: In today's economic climate, it probably makes good business sense for Google to send gifts to paying customers but not to publishers who already receive money from AdSense.

A bonus would be nice, but I didn't even get a card last year where I've always got something before. I can't say I'm not bitter, but maybe if the they did like an -adopt-a-star- program and fired someone in my name and send me a certificate that'd cheer me up.

Well, this year no cards from my other partners, not a single one including Google. One company that normally sends a snail mail card, instead sent a Christmas email wishing us a happy year. That same company is late this month paying publishers. No gifts, no cards, vastly reduced monthly checks. Bahhh hummer-bugged.

I got a very nice calendar with a 4x6 embroidered patch from a company that I bought from once this year. As a matter of fact I bought some giveaways and my holiday gifts (Ironic, huh?) from them back in April. I needed them right away and they were able to turn around the order very quickly and at a fair price.

HOWEVER I had decided not to order from them anymore because of a pricing structure issue; they charge the same for reorders as they do for first time orders of the same products. Normally in this biz, there is a setup charge for first time orders; their regular price is about the same as everyone else's regular price plus the setup charge.

I have asked them if they'll waive the setup charge and the salesperson declined, so I started to look for another supplier for repeat orders.

I will give them a call, in fact I'll ask to speak with the owner this time, thank him for thinking of me and offering to do more business if the pricing structure of the deals can be worked out a bit better.

I wouldn't have done this if not for the gift. They were forgotten. While I won't be altering my decision unless the terms improve, it will get them a second chance at my business.

My best gift so far is from my Federal Politician.

A very nice card which doubles up as a 2009 Calendar.

At a Christmas Party last week she promised "better to follow".

IMHO, it does not really matter. I never received any gifts and I've been with AdSense since 2003 and make a decent amount of money with and for them.

I am just thankful for my many blessings. I am still making money with AdSense, I am still able to sell online, and I have my health, my family, my pets, my friends, my home, etc. A trinket would not make or break me.

If it is more "fiscally responsible" for Google not to send out gifts, then I am glad they are being fiscally responsible. After all, if Google were to go under, it would hurt many of us publishers very badly would it not?

Merry Christmas to everyone at Google and everyone at Webmaster World!

Perhaps this is a bad time for swag, but what about a repeat of those DonorsChoose.org cards, or some form of similar joint charitable giving? How about a matching gift to a participating charity for donated AdSense earnings, up to a fixed limit?

Not being of the faith... Christmas gifts are not a concern... however, would be nice if google would make make the effort and have payments in time for Christmas...

ElvisFan, I got the EFT in my account today. That'll do in place of a gift this year ;-) Thanks AdSense!

Well it was my second largest AdSense payment ever. Last month's payment was even better ;-) So Google was good to me this year, so I guess I was a good boy this year LOL
