An extremely interesting metric I now have for October through until 25th November v All 2008 average:
Clicks, CTR and Earnings all down ~20%
Page Impressions are about the same but does this mean anything these days?
And for those on-line shoppers according to the BBC:
Online shoppers in the US spent $8.2bn (£5.3bn) in November, down 4% on last year's figures.

Ho hum...from the UK Happy Holidays to those celebrating it:-)
OUCH, ouch, ouch...Sunday traffic and an excellent EPC however the lowest clicks' day I have ever had!
The only consolation I have at present is the dire state of Sterling which is keeping my earnings look semi-reasonable, if it were still at 2.00 it would be a blxxdy mess.

Nothing, hardly any traffic from anywhere. I thought I'd been bombed from the SERPs however all is ok there.
This is very strange for my sites considering the volume of Asian, Middle Eastern and European traffic I normally have. I do appreciate that there are some very serious news events occurring at this very moment but this is making Katrina, Xmas and New Year's Day look positively bountiful.
For those with not Xmas sites, are you seeing similar?
My AdSense eCPM and affiliate sales continue to be soft, but display ads continue to do well--possibly because display advertisers realize the importance of building awareness and promoting their products or services even at a time when consumers are holding off purchases as long as they can.
So far today's looking even worse...roll on next week with fingers crossed that everyone finds their "on" button again!
Luckily I brew my own beer
I'm sure Husky will thank you to show him how...
Oh heck...and just when I thought it couldn't go any lower, Friday's EPC was slashed and with the second lowest page impressions of the year a new earnings low for me was set.
ditto. sigh.
roll on next week with fingers crossed that everyone finds their "on" button again!
I don't think even if I knew where the "on" button was, that I would be in control of it. Google has control over all the buttons.
You all must be the saddest bunch of grumpy old publishers.
heck Hobbs, if I was earning as much as you and got hit hard, I'd still be sitting pretty and enjoying life.
icedowl... good thing I prioritized Adsense long ago as the fancy wrapping around my chocolate. With or without it, I'd still have my chocolate.
You all must be the saddest bunch of grumpy old publishers.
Not half as sad and grumpy as the Google beer token station owners! I went out last night to use up some of my tokens and it was dead, I've never seen it so quiet, ever.
its about time for the annual Holiday shake up
Yep I was thinking exactly the same a couple of days ago...must stop thinking negative thoughts:-)
The bones of the article are:
"Early reports suggest that Black Friday sales in retail stores were slightly better than anticipated (--my comment, whose anticipations, their's?!--) in this depressed retail climate, and that performance apparently (--my comment, why apparently all of a suuden? The original figures were theirs and so are the new ones--) extended to the online channel, which saw sales on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday combined increase 2 percent versus year ago, said comScore chairman, Gian Fulgoni. Its probable that on Black Friday consumers responded positively to the very aggressive promotions and discounts being offered in retail stores, so it will be important to see how they respond to similarly attractive deals being offered online on Cyber Monday, the traditional kick-off to the online holiday shopping season.
The problem at this time of year is that comparisons of the odd day or so, even the odd week or so, are so misleading. Unfortunately for us, gazing hopefully into the future, only real figures ever tell what actually will happen(ed). And real figures only come from hindsight. There simply are no really reliable sources of information for what is going to happen over the next month. Time alone will tell. I'm maintaing a positive attitude.
The basics still apply even in these crunch times, spread your risk, do your best and trust your own judgement. I'm back to a short period of contract work to bolster the finances, just insurance I hope!
Oddly, we are having a strong Sunday today. I always think that G burns through those monthly budgets on these last days of the month. I am not complaining. ;-)
Frankly, I'm always heartened by good news stories, no matter how I'm personally going.
I literally "drink to your continued success"
OK, I can afford it.

I really mean that!

Of course, some categories may do better or worse than others. One survey suggested that books will be the #1 holiday purchase this year; that may be good news if your site features books, but it won't do you much good if you own the domain yachts-for-hedge-fund-managers.com and your readers (and advertisers) are feeling bearish these days.
