However, in the race of which source of revenue is earning me the most, AdSense continues to fall behind.
I don't mean this to be discouragement to anyone else. Rather, it should be encouragement for those who have good sites. (as opposed to the masses who built sites solely or primarily to make money from AdSense)
Keep exploring other revenue streams - affiliate programs, other PPC opportunities, your own products, direct advertising, etc.
For example: One of my sites is very much a niche topic. There is another site that I considered my number one competitor for visitor attention. I learned that site has an affiliate program, joined it, made a few small changes to my site, and within 5 days the income from that affiliate program surpassed my AdSense income from the site - and that is my number 1 AdSense site.
Who knows, in a couple of years AdSense might be calling some of us and saying, "Please give us another chance, we've made lots of changes"
Keep working and never give up.

I've never seemed to do well with affiliates except the travel/booking stuff. I always suspected that parasiteware had a good bit to do with that.
Question - are you doing any processing of the affiliate links to make the parasite resistant/parasite proof or are you simply using the affiliate links as-is.
thanks
chris
Parasites are a problem. I've run away from some programs because of that. I switch around to different programs until I find the right fit.
This doesn't seem like an AdSense discussion, it feels more about how to monetize a website. I find it troubling that some webmasters are so dependant on AdSense they even use their AdSense control panel as a substitute for a real stats program. That's a poor way to run a website. There are multiple ways for monetization, I'm glad it's working for you FB.
Horses for course is my view. If Adsense brings you in the money then excellent. If affiliates do, then excellent also. Adsense works on some sites, Affiliates on others.
On my sites affiliates work zilch, Adsense works great. I don't "depend" on Adsense, just milk it for all I can get.
Ads direct from business associates work well also.
Glad that your ad mix is working for you.

Simply using them as-is.
What happened to EFV on WebmasterWorld. I haven't seen a post from for ages?
Well, it's not the same WebmasterWorld that it used to be.
This doesn't seem like an AdSense discussion,
End of discussion then. Sorry about that.

I actually learned webmasterworld existed through the forum of an affiliate I was using at the time and somebody mentioning adsense and pointing here for more information. I'm still using that affiliate (amazon) with relatively good success in my niche inside the travel scene. However stuff like orbitz (which you would assume to work on a website filled with interested travelers even discussing prices, where to rent a car etc.) does nothing, nada. I can only guess but I think the user experience of some affiliates jsut is too bad to work properly.
Perhaps the adsense forum isn't the best place and this needs to be moved, but I'd love to see this discussion in the open.
Which affiliates work currently?
Which don't?
For what type of visitors ?
Guesses as to why ?
There's no way we can try them all individually just to have a look at it. SO we stand to gain the most by comparing situations and trying to grow on other's experiences (Even my #1 traffic competitor can make money of an affiliate, I've nothing to loose if they do)

Why not ask in the Advertising Sales and Affiliate Programs [webmasterworld.com] forum?
(Like many Webmaster World forums that don't involve the name "Google," it could use a boost.)
