Instead of a post that my income is down, let's try something different within the Google AdSense forum area.

My eCPM and overall earnings is up and I donít know why.

I have made changes and there have been events in the world, so letís all speculate or vote on what happened.

1) Olympics ended, but my earnings where climbing during the Olympics.
2) We have entered the hurricane season.
3) School has started for most across the nation (USA)
4) Smart pricing has been removed (my AdSense Account Strategist has already said Iím not smart priced).
5) I removed some ads from a section of my website that accounts for 5% of my traffic and put other contextual ad partnerís ads there.
6) Earnings increased during Olympics; however I got another boost after our last AdSense maintenance event. Letís call this one Maintenance event!
7) Google is taking less of a cut and giving me more percentage of the take.
8) Other?

Could you tell us a bit more?

Is this a recent and sudden jump or has it been happening over time? Has your average click value gone up or your CTR or are you getting more traffic?

I have also experienced an improvement in eCPM due largely to an increase in click value--this goes back to last summer. Since that time, average click value has almost doubled, gradually.

I think it's largely due to a shift in the ads that appear on my site. But I really don't know.

Mine have been up for nearly 2 weeks. Again a rise in eCPM, maybe 30% over what had become the norm in the summer. I don't know why. I never changed nothing....I blame Google :-)

Though do we really have the required statistical significance to judge that eCPM is actually up and not just up and down? You'll be picked up on that you know.

For me it's a CPC increase. Possibly due to new advertisers in the mix. Though it only brings me up to pre-summer levels before the 30% drop.

Sudden jump.

I have also had sudden drops in eCPM in the past, as well as slow gradual drops.

On that theme ... it must be about a year since the Great Google Arbitrager Purge. Has that had any noticeable effect on earnings for everyone else?

We have seen a steady uptick of epc since, but a lot of our advertisers are non US and the plunging dollar might also have been involved.

I have been seeing an increase during this month. Basically, it seems to be a general increase in EPC. There has been some great speculation above, but I just don't know. Google AdSense just seems to like me a little bit more this month.

Same here. EPC is way up over this time last year (probably about 25-30% overall, and 30-35% in July).

The U.S. dollar has been creeping up again lately, so it will be interesting to see if EPC is affected.

biscuit, that's a good point. My visitors and advertisers are mostly US, and the EPC rise I've seen has been over that time period--so the purge may be a factor.

Something else that is interesting and I don't know when this trend started.

In the past, my eCPM was always highest in the mornings when I first checked and dropped as the day progressed. Now, my eCPM is the lowest in the morning and builds until about 21:00 then begins a slow and minor drop.

Most of my visitors are US and Canada with about 20% UK, India, Australia.

10) Google made a mistake and will be removing the extra money from your account soon.

Well, in my case, if they made a mistake they started making it almost a year ago and have compounded it since then....

Wow Edge... are you reading MY AdSense stats?! (lol)
They seem to be following the same scenario you are describing...

OTHER-THAN... I'm in a market niche that is "maturing" & is quite a bit related to the RE industry & people moving into new residences...

So naturally, the amount of searches conducted by the general surfing-public in regards to my web site's subject matter has been in decline the past several years... AND consequently my overall earnings have also been steadily eroding pretty much correspondingly with the RE market, unfortunately (sigh)

Edge I am seeing the late in the day eCPM rises too. It was always the opposite. I think something fundemental may have changed in the system during last week's maintenance. Hope it keeps up.
