I received a mail from G adWords promoting adWords for traffic..specifically for site with adSense on it..

The mail goes.. Dear AdSense Publisher... etc etc etc
Why don't you use adwords? etc etc.

Isn't this dangerous..given the recent spate of bannings and booted from adsense threads..esp. because of assumed 'arbitrage'?

How can G be so irresponsible. or is it a desperate adWords side of the biz trying for more business.

The mail is from someone at google.. the email address for correspondsence is xyz @ google . com

I don't know about dangerous, seems like standard "hey try our other products, give us money" stuff.

AdWords usage does not mean arbitrage

I removed my adwords account last year when the banned notes started appearing. It was arbitage but didn't make a profit, just discounted the cost of adwords traffic.

I am about to launch a new section on a different topic, and adwords would be perfect to get the traffic started.

Did Google suggest in their mail any guidelines (such as remove adsense from landing page etc)? My site is funded by Adsense and it feels dangerous to me as well.

"AdWords usage does not mean arbitrage "

AdWords on an adSense site will always have some people clicking ads. Isn't that arbitrage? God forbid if the adSense revenue goes higher than adWords cost, then... the poor publisher has had it! ( or so one might believe!)

I've been driving traffic to one of my main sites with AdWords for several years, and that site has AdSense and affiliate ads on it. I'm not in the least worried about it, even though I don't pay more than three or four cents for any clicks. I don't know if it matters to Google that the site was around before there even *was* a Google. But my business model is pretty clear and out in the open, and I don't think Google minds it in the least.

Netmeg - I understnad. I also drive traffic to pages with adsense meeting websmaster guidlines and smetimes it shows an arbitrage profit also.

The problem is that such a blanket mail to adSense publishers is fraught with danger as not all business models are open and honest. Millions of sites are created only for adSense purposes..

This opens up the possibilitry of many publishers receiving the 'inappropriate biz. model' mail..

Maybe this is way to weed out 'publishers'? Dangerous stuff, I feel and not ethical by big G.

I don't think it's particularly unethical. AdWords is a product, and it makes perfect sense for Google to advertise its products in one area to users of its products in another. Now, I didn't see the email; it might have been wise of them to put something in the email to the effect that the sites should conform to all applicable guidelines - but to expect Google NOT to promote a program because some people might abuse it? I don't think that's reasonable. Heck, if that were true, we'd never see a beer commercial on TV here in the US, lest someone drink too many and start up an automobile.
