A bit of retro reporting if you like. I just ran some numbers on last years stuff to see how my efforts have paid off over the last 12 months.

So I worked hard and increased my traffic by at least 30% Impressions are up clicks are up, google is getting more of my traffic than ever so I'm doing my job.

Revenue remains about the same or slightly higher due to the increased traffic volume. Now if we are going to talk averages here my eCPM is off a full 50% over this time last year.

Supply & Demand 101. eCPM going down would make sense.

Well after reading the original post I decided to do a little checking of my own Adsense numbers. My earnings have increased 20% since this same time last year - which is good!

What accounts for the increase? I think its the same thing that the original poster said and that is just continuing to work on one's site.

My July, 2008 AdSense for Content revenue was down quite a bit from the same month last year, largely because of a lower clickthrough rate (which was probably caused by moving the AdSense unit to a low-visibility "below the fold" location in deference to display ads, although Google's new way of counting valid clicks may also be a factor).

On the brighter side, this year's AdSense for Content EPC is way up over last year's, and AdSense for Search is doing very, very well now that I've made it more prominent on the page.
