Would this tool be ok?

Fed up with seeing poor quality ads, need an easy way to weed them out.

I've been thinking about this for some time and decided it's time to perhaps do something about it.

Browsing randomly through my site sometimes (actually too often) I come across junk ads, the odd MFA, irrelevant ads or pages where the ads have stopped (sometimes user comments can do this - even if you moderate forums and have filters etc.). I basically want to keep a close eye on all the ads running across the site so that if there's a problem, I can deal with it straight away. It's hard to do this with hundreds of pages, it's going to be even harder with thousands.

What I wanted to do was this: Walk through each page and basically capture the text and actual URL of the ads showing, grab a screenshot of the destination page (obviously without generating a click!) Perhaps I'd run this once a week.

I'd present this in a nice simple list that I could scroll down with a checkbox at the end of each row so I could compile a list of (must look at pages) - maybe use this to generate a block list?

Assuming it didn't modify code, generate clicks or do anything like that - would this be allowed? Obviously I'd generate page impression for every page, just once and say once a week - but this could just as easily happen checking manually.

A nice dream to have such a tool listing all advertisers but your approach is flawed in 2 directions:

- Non conclusive due to geographical and time of day variations so it will only collect a sample, which browsing few of your pages should achieve anyway if your topics are tight.

- If you really mean this:

I basically want to keep a close eye on all the ads running across the site

Then you are a perfect candidate for direct advertising, not AdSense, it is not meant for nitpicking, and torturing yourself over its shortcoming is a waste of time.

Plus as you said it's an automated tool that will inflate ad impressions (if it executes java) which Google's TOS regards a fraud and is justification to an account termination.
