Pesky and unwanted ads

Hello!

I have a site, lets call it widgetcrib.com. It sells widgets of all kinds but due to the domain name, the adsense ads on the page are all about baby cribs.

There is enough text on the page to determine the content, but google is putting lots of weight on the word crib in the domain name.

Is there a way to fix this?

I had a similar problem with one web site, usually with time and analysis of your visitor behavior (my assumption), Google ends getting the right theme, but it can take a while. Such a keyword in the domain name and the page title seems to have a great influence on Adsense.

You could try section targeting, but it did not help me

It seems to me the place where you put ads matters. Try putting your ads as close to the content as possible (ad code, not visual positioning). I think AdSense tries to target ads to surrounding content.

I would concur. Section targeting is not as effective as tweaking WHERE your ads are located. Try using h2, h3 and h4 tags for headers throughout your page, too. Seems to affect the content of the ads if ads are closer to these, even below -- sandwiched between header and content.

I had the exact same problem (and occasionally still do). Took a year and a half, but Google eventually figured it out. The only way I know of that *might* hurry it up would be if you added more content about the widgets in order to minimize the crib part.
