Question about the new AdSense for Search

Can I change the colors?

I finally decided to set up the new AdSense for Search code yesterday. Unfortunately, I can't use the code because there seems to be no flexibility regarding colors. As far as I can tell, I get three choices for the background surrounding the search box: white, gray, and black. It is horrifically ugly on my site.

Looking at the code, I can clearly see that they have hard-coded the colors with inline CSS. Am I allowed to change the code to the colors that I want? I know better than to mess with the code for normal AdSense ads, but is the search box code different?

You can change it. I asked them yesterday.

Thanks, that's good to know. Is there anything officially written down anywhere?

Thanks for that link, but that's exactly where I've been looking. The only custom colors that I can see are for the results page.

I did figure out a way around the problem. If you choose the very first option (the one with Google Custom Search inside the search box) then you get a transparent background. That works perfectly. For me, that is better than setting up custom colors.
