First off, apologies if this is a tired question. I'm considering signing up to adsense but wanted some advice before I do.

My website is effectively a landing page with the sole purpose of gaining subscribers. Along with my SEO guy I want to market the site using the most effective methods. As a simple 1-page site do you think adsense is suitable? I dont actually care about the potential earnings, I'm only interested in driving traffic to the site.

Secondly, I'm concerned about competition. Since google says it only uses relevant ad's, this could mean direct competition even with google's best intentions to avoid it. Can I 'organically' add to a list of sites I DONT want listed?

Thirdly, when a site is created much time is spent on word placement and visual elements. The wrong ad's in the wrong place can hurt this. How does google do this, can I as owner move them?

Lastly, can I unsubscribe from adsense at any time

Thanks for your help, Ollie

Hi Ollie

Have you read the T&Cs?

1. You should have content, at least enough for the AdSense bot to understand what your site subject purports to be.

You won't be able to drive traffic to the site using AdSense, you paying for AdWords, possibly.

2. You can filter out sites you do not want appearing on yours.

3. You cannot change anything in the ads except their visual appearance i.e. block size and colours.

4. It's a two way street, they can also terminate you at any time, without notice!

Go read those T&Cs...again:-)

AdSense is probably the opposite of what you want. It will provide potential earnings and it won't help you with traffic.

guys,
warf says "I'm only interested in driving traffic to the site"

This means AdWords not AdSense
[webmasterworld.com...]

But please follow HP's advice, read the TOS and don't be cheap, pay well if you want good traffic, make a good landing page if you don't want us to block you with our scary mighty filter.

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at the T&C's again...properly!
I thought I might get traffic using adsense if popular sites are advertised on my page, but I see its the other way round!

I'll take a look at adwords..
Anyone like to share experiences of pure SEO Vs. Adwords? which is better/more effective?

It's not an either or. Many of us use both.

I'll take a look at adwords..

This is how it works. Open AdWords account and create ad campaign. Then open AdSense account and place GOOG adSense ads on your website.

Once your adWords campaign starts delivering traffic to your website you will generate revenue as the users from the AdWords campaign will start clicking on your AdSense links. Just place 3 AdSense units in the middle of your websie with little content so the user have no choice but to click on your adSense ads. The best is to place some image or google map somewhere on your website.

Even better would be if you can get Yahoo Ads in stead of AdSense.

Good luck!
