Newbie question: regarding Allowed Sites

I am very new to Adsense so please bear with me if this is simple. I want to target ads to my site. Under Allowed Sites, I have placed the URLs of sites (seen in other Adsense ads) that I believe would benefit the audience of the web site. I have clicked the "Only allow certain sites to show ads for my account" button. But I do not see any of these sites showing up. Am I misconstruing the purpose of the "Allowed Sites" tab?

Yes. Allowed sites are the sites you own and AdSense will only pay you for ads that appear on those sites.

As rocker says. You can't target ads to your site, by the way. Advertisers can target you, and if they do, then you can decide if you want to allow their ads to appear on your site, using the Ad Review Center.
