Hi I am new here so please dont mind me if I am asking stupid questions.

I have just created a new site and received 1883 page impressions and one click today for the first time but I am only making $0.20....it's kind of shocking because I heard that google pays a few dollars for every thousand impressions...

is this normal? or does it look like i did something wrong? or should i wait a little longer for the earning information to be updated? ( i have just added the banners today...)

if 1883 impressions + 1 click = $0.20, I guess it will take me almost forever to make my first $100...

Page impressions: 1883
clicks: 1
Page CTR: 0.05%
Page eCPM:$0.11
Earnings: $0.20

Most of the ads are Pay Per Click not Pay per Impression

so your 1 click = $0.20

Click (CTR) depends upon many factors such as your site topic, ad position, colors etc.

A click can be anywhere from 1 cent to...for me, $1.50, I don't have super high keywords on my site.

Just keep getting traffic there, move ads around, and see what works. The first 100 is the hardest, you need to not worry about money and concentrate on getting more unique visitors to your site.

Mind you, Google doesn't allow publishing specifics like CTR, EPC, eCPM. Having said that...

If you have just put up the ads it is rather possible that the AdSense hasn't had the chance to visit or analyze your page and optimize the ads to be shown. Just wait a couple of days and see if the ads meet the subject of your page.

Google aint god!

They certainly are when it comes to decide who has an adsense account or not.

I can live with or without it. (thanks to 1.5 full time jobs)
I wish Microsoft would buy Yahoo and compete against Google. It sucks being so dependent on ONE website to get traffic and generate money.

I noticed the following:

[google.com...]

Confidentiality. You agree not to disclose Google Confidential Information without Google's prior written consent. "Google Confidential Information" includes without limitation: (a) all Google software, technology, programming, specifications, materials, guidelines and documentation relating to the Program; (b) click-through rates or other statistics relating to Property performance in the Program provided to You by Google; and (c) any other information designated in writing by Google as "Confidential" or an equivalent designation. You can't post stats. You can say "yeah i make around 10k" but you can't give your adsense stats for it.

Microsoft does not compete. Microsoft (illegally) leverages their de-facto monopoly in other areas to gain a monopoly in other ares. They've been convicted to pay record breaking fines for doing this.

They annihilate the market and provide the worst alternative in a monopoly fashion. Once they gain that monopoly they move on to capture new markets or solidify areas they already have a monopoly in. (eg. your ads all of sudden might stop working if not served from IIS to IE. Since they have a monopoly they'll reduce your CPC to $ 0.0001, you'll have no alternative to turn to.

MSFT is the worst threat you can imagine to monetizing your website.

Back to the OP's question: a CPC of $0.20 isn't bad. Your CTR is rather low, try repositioning your ads to stand out a bit more.

Typically the consensus is that you should be able to make $0.01 per visitor, or even more without having to cheat in any way or form.

Also the content on your site has relevance, some areas pay more (e.g. travel is often mentioned) or alternatively some things don't work so well (e.g. forums are often mentioned).

It sucks being so dependent on ONE website to get traffic and generate money.

Then don't depend on one website. There are other ways to monetize your site(s) to supplement or replace AdSense and there are other ways to make money online than advertising.

Blurblade,

Perhaps it is wise to give the Adsense TOS and help pages some careful reading.

I have just created a new site and received 1883 page impressions and one click today

is this normal?

Your earnings are not very unusual.
But having 1883 page impressions in one day for a new site you just created, that's not normal.

Thank you all for your answers, you guys are so cool!

Gian04>
Yeap...I guess 0.20 is not too bad...is it possible to choose to add more pay per 1000 impressions ad to one's site?

himalayaswater>
mine has one image only on top right next to the logo, one skyper on the right (but on the upper area, just after the first banner if you look at the html) then 2 link units, one rectangle size right below the content area...all ads do not have lines that seperate them from the content so I think for now I have done my best to blend them all together...but I think I should play more with the channels too.

StoutFiles>
whoah...1.5 per click looks like a lot to me. mine do not have high keywords either...i will keep working on making the site better! thanks for your advice =)

radix>
Thank you for reminding me that. I actually thought about it when I woke up this morning but it was already too late..I will be very careful from now on. You're right I am a little too impatient..I have stopped checking adsense contral panel page every hour now...better work more on the site

dailypress>
it was really my bad...

koan>
hopefully they wont notice..but I promise I will never do that again

dailypress>
I should never post info like that ever again..sorry it was my bad

StoutFiles>
yeap that's right..it's good that everyone is taking the rules seriously

swa66>
has anyone tried out Yahoo yet? are they not as good as google?
$0.01 is perfect for my site, it is exactly what I am hoping for. when it comes to cheating, I think one may be able to cheat and make a few dollars..but google should be find out easily if someone cheat to make more than 100 dollar a day with adsense...correct? I hope I can achive this goal soon 1 visitor=0.01 dollar! thanks for the good news!

farmboy>
can you give us some examples? I am totally new to this

randNewDay>
yeah i guess it is unusual but my site is quite big so perhaps that's why

Do you have any space left for content ?

one ad block and aone adlinks should be plenty.

why are forum sites are said to be not money makers? does google pay less for those sites or simply because returning users do not click on the ads?

Not that unusual, I've been getting $0.01 just for page impressions for a while when it goes over a couple of thousand.

how can you tell that which earning is from impressions only and not click? sorry i am new and a little confused by the control panel...also it looks like once a banner is created there is no way to delete it...is it right?
finally is there anyway we can choose to have more pay per impression adsense ads to add to sites? sorry i ask so many questions...
