I've never run them in order to maxmize my revenue with the products i sell. but the traffic cant be ignored and if it can bring in revenue without taking away from sales through the site, I'm in.

My question is, WHERE on the site is the best place to run ads for your average online store selling widgets? Where NOT to run ads?

I am thinking ads by the footer could run well while ads IN the product description could actually hurt me. I know amazon does this, but they're amazon. I dont want to lose any sales...but I have real-estate to spare for some ads if it'll bring in a little more dough

(I am making a similar post in e-commerce forum to get a few perspectives on this topic and will update everyone with the results.

Put 'em on your order confirmation page - you've already got the sale, so everything else is gravy.

I am very skeptical of buying from an ecommerce website that also advertises other products -- somehow it seems that this company is not real or is desperate. Putting ads on every page is simply a terrible idea and I agree with netmeg that just on the very last page when it is all done it may be OK to put them.

That seems logical, but amazon.com does it.

It comes down to the bottom line. AdSense ads are going to take away some sales, but the ad revenue might more than compensate. All you can do is experiment and find out what works.
