In checking our Ad Review Center, we're getting an average of 20 placement targeted advertisers a day.
Aside from
- constantly improving/adding content
- allowing targetable settings for your channels
(a) What else can you do to increase the number of advertisers doing placement targeted ads to your site?
(b) Can increasing the number of placement targeted ads really help increase your revenues?
Thanks
(b) Can increasing the number of placement targeted ads really help increase your revenues?
It can, but it isn't a certainty. We have well over 1000 placement targeted ads on our site and we're not making as much from them as you'd think. Sometimes it's 50/50 split with contextual ads, sometimes it's far less, and sometimes it's far more. The amount of placement earnings will vary from one day to the next and because the ads are worth more but oftentimes targeted with strict criteria, we're not necessarily seeing a rise in revenue with a rise in targeted ads.
I have a large site with hundreds of categories, and my channels were set up to test ad formats and positions. This means that if someone targeted my site, they pretty much would have to go site-wide.
About a week ago I grouped my categories into 8 main categories, and set up new category-specific channels. The increase in CPM was nearly immediate, but I don't think it is because of placement-targeting.
So far CPM looks like it will settle at about an 8% increase. I will write more details of my experiment after I get more data.
