Default if Adsense ads are blocked?

Hi

Does Adsense have a feature where if ads are blocked it defaults to something else? Like an image or simply the background color of your site? When Adsense ads are blocked in some browsers I'm left with a very unattractive black box on my site. I'm not even sure if this is possible. How would Google know Adsense was being blocked by the browser?

if adsense ads are blocked by an 'ad blocker' then adsense can't do much about it as the adsense code is not executed, I would think the web site could be designed to allow for that though.
