Beginner to adsense, refferal or adsense for content?

I just recently signed up for adsense, and while I'm finalizing my first article for another site, I added an ad on my blog. I started with adsense for content, but it gave me unrelated crap like: dating sites, adult chat etc. Those type of adds kind of degrade my site though and don't want that garbage on there. So I added referal ads instead. But I see that content ads at least show some impressions. Reffereal ads show just 0's.

Whats better for a beginner?

Based on your post last month of starting a new site and applying to Adsense, I'm going on the assumption that you have minimal content and minimal traffic. That's not really a good combination to perform with AdSense for either the content or the referral channel.

You said that you just wanted to see how AdSense works. Well, now you do so your next step is building up your site with good content which should increase your traffic.

Your site may be too new to get relevant content ads. Hopefully that will improve. How do you know what type of products are attractive to your visitors to choose the most appropriate referral ads? Generally speaking, referral ads have a low conversion rate (under 5%) so even when you start to get clicks on referral ads, a low traffic site will have a difficult time generating any income from them since your earnings come only from the necessary action required after they are clicked.

Thanks for the reply!

I added adsense to check it out on a blog that really isn't that important, but the "real" site has lots of content. Like I was saying, the first article will probably top 4000 words before I go through and eliminate the banter. Just from my first article I have leads on 6 more articles aside from what I had originally planned. Not knowing what visitors would want to see is a great point, so I will stick with content ads.

Thank you so much!
