Come on now, this is beneath the usual discussion level on WW. I think being insulting of a regular poster's site like this is out of bounds - especially considering he is one of the few people here who isn't anonymous with his site or name.
I'm sorry if you get the impression. It wasnt anything personal. How I said, he got very unique and quality content. I did not mean to insult him, just was trying to show the difference between professionally run dot.com business and individual running small site/blog mostly as a hobby collecting "pennies" from AdSense.

For me to guess I would say EFV earns a lot more than pennies and also I would say his website is a professionally run dot.com business, I remember the early days of Lonely Planet before the new designs & commercialized.
Anyway, I run a large network of websites on many different topics and I use Adsense as one of my rev. streams and it has only been going up and up CTR, CPM and earnings.
The only thing that sucks is the USD to the Pound.

As for hobby sites, they're outside my area of expertise, but I'd guess that a hobby site with the right topic--and the right audience--will score far higher EPCs than the pennies per click that you've experienced. Advertisers don't care if you've got no employees, six employees, or twenty employees: They care about content, audience, and (in the case of PPC ads) ROI.

As per the CJ, I closed the account because I no longer needed the services. I used to run a travel website and was earning 5 figure monthly income mostly from hotel bookings through an affiliation with other sites such as hotels.com. At that time I decided to focus on one niche and left the travel site behind. The site is still alive and generating small revenue from hotel and attraction tickets bookings plus the AdSense is still there but how I said I did not touch the site in years.

That merely shows how little you know about my site or about travel publishing. Still, this thread isn't about you or me; it's about last Friday's AdSense EPC. Do you have any data to share on that topic? (Probably not, if you're no longer using AdSense.)

I get the impression you think anyone who doesn't employ a team (like you do) to maintain a site(s) is amateurish or a hobby.
There are some people here who earn a very good living from a site(s) without the need to supervise a team of employees. If it's necessary for them to go out and hire employees to be considered a professionally run dotcom business, my guess is most will be content to be considered amateurs or hobbyists.
For me personally, the web has enabled me to move away from the hassles of being an employer.

I'm with you. Having an employer or being an employer seems soooooo 20th Century. :-) I love working in an era and a medium that let me outsource ad sales, distribution, and the other chores that I used to associate with publishing.
Now, to get this back on topic.
Friday was pathetic but Friday's are usually the worst day of the week for me. Saturday was worse, and today is a shining star so far.
There are some people here who earn a very good living from a site(s) without the need to supervise a team of employees.
Thats right and I was one of them until I realized that I will have more freedom and time for my family if I hire people to manage the website for me. They design the site, write articles, sale ads, answer the phones etc. It is the luxury of being successful and it allows me to grow and develop more websites and make more $$$.
