AdSense Revenue

Okay, I have a niche site that does about 1,000 visitors per day. I have several banner advertisers and have been experimenting with some affiliate programs which haven't really impressed me.

I am considering trying out AdSense. With 1000 daily visitors on a 100 page site, how much could one make, and is it worth it?

Because the Google agreement doesn't allow publishers to discuss actual earnings and CPMs and the like you are unlikely to get the answer you want here until you try it yourself.

Common sense would dictate that so many people on this board may dictate checking it out. Common sense taken one step further would dictate that your success will depend on your site's subject matter (is it something advertisers are willing to pay Google more than a nickel to bid on the related keywords) and is your audience likely to click on those ads (i.e. -- not jaded repeat visitors).

But most people tend to be happy, even those running forum community sites.

Right now I really do not think google is worth anyones time. Sure you may have good payouts, but adsense has taken all honor of their program. Garbage sites with adsense are all over the place, they want you to put 3 units on each page, and now they put "Ads by GOOOOGLE" to make all of our sites like childrens games.

Hopefully for all of us Microsoft will come out with a sweet ad program and blow google out of the water once and for all.

The only way Microsoft could beat Adsense is if they could get a bigger advertiser base behind them. Not saying that it can't be done, just that there is some inertia behind Google. I could see Overture having a decent crack at it, esp. if they can grow their advertising base to a critical mass.

You just signup, and throw a snippet of HTML code on a page.

How much is that worth to you? That might help us judge if this task is worth your effort?

Would $.05 cents a day be enough? $.20 cents? $1? $10? $100? $1000 a day?

All of those figures are possible. The only way to find out which one would you would get is by spending the few seconds it takes to add a snippet of HTML code to your site.

Seems like a chance worth taking to me. What have you got to lose?

IMO, the best way to find out is just try it. I ran an experiment on my major site for 2 months and then reviewed the results. That gave me enough data to reasonably analyze it. (In the end, I've decided to continue it - although not on all pages.)

Whoa, Chris, hold up. First off, MS isn't even IN that business, so they won't. Second, google SUPPORTS up to three, they don't tell you to go off doing that, and third, my CTR has gone up 10x since the change of goooooogle.

If your CTR went up 10x since the addition of GOOOOOGLE you have something else going on. Why on earth would you get 10x more clicks for the addition of a few OOOO's? Something is way skewed here. If your CTR is 10 times what it was, you have a definite reason to be emailing adsense support to inquire about possible fradualnt clicks.

Msft. has for a long time now been interested in developing a widely used search engine with advertising. Google did this as well, and ergo, we have adsense. I would not be too quick to count out Microsoft from developing a program and soliciting advertisers overnight.

Google is trying to paste the internet with its adwords ads to make more money. They would love for all publishers to tack on 3 units per page, they have a better chance of making more money. If you think that they do not really want people to use 3 than you have a lot of issues going on. They want to make more money, and shareholders now DEMAND that they make more money. Long gone are the days google could play around with ideas and test the waters for profitability, they have to preform now or management will be changed real fast.

Larry and Sergey own almost a third of the Class B stock, which has 10 times the voting power of the Class A shares that were sold in the IPO, so management is probably not going to change anytime soon.
