Was there another announcement that I missed?

According to the blog:

If you're currently displaying a Picasa referral unit on your site, you won't notice any changes to the unit or to the way that you have been generating earnings. For now, all Picasa referral units that are currently up will remain supported

[adsense.blogspot.com...]

Now give it back Google!

Mine got mysteriously changed to a government auction referral (!) and even weirder, I got a conversion on it over the weekend (which was how I found out what happened)

I think the referrals are messed up.

From what I've seen Google has been running other referral ads (at a low rate) in place of the original referrals program. For example an Adsense text referral ad has displayed many other referrals on my sites.

Make sure you run "Advanced Report", "Referrals", selecting
"Product Data", "For all Products", "Both'" or Product"

If you haven't done this before you may be in for a big surprise. Many ads running in place of the "Good Ole" referrals. In many cases 100's of different ads probably along with say a Picasa ad.
