Multiple ad unitsTo provide even more value to your users, and to help you further monetize your web pages, we're allowing publishers to place up to three ad units on every web page. Our system will automatically recognize the additional ad units, and will serve unique ads to each. Your ad units can each have different color palettes, formats, and alternate ad URLs, providing you with the flexibility you need to incorporate Google ads into your site design. Please read the Multiple Ad Units section of our FAQ for the full details.
This seems to be a great feature google has, add something else and the original idea does not work.
Maybe they blocked me because they do not like me.
So far this month my EPC is down. I do welcome this multiple adsense unit development, but if i find that it just increases the number of .05 cent ads I have on my page, I'll probably go back to the way it was.
Chris, in case you haven't caught the tip in other forum threads, Google gives priority to the first AdSense code it finds in your html, and that it does not presently have the inventory to always fill the second or third ad block. So if you want the old box filled before the new, you need to find a way to make it come first.
In case anyone is wondering, this is easily done using CSS and div tags. Well, easily being a subjective term, of course.

Well since you obviously know what the page is about, you will have no issue telling me how it seems odd that google does not have the ad inventory for more ads about air travel. Obviously only 4 advertisers exist on adsense for air travel.
This is not a case of lack of ad inventory, it is a case of google having a shoddy system that is unable to fill additional space. After putting the second code on other similar pages I am seeing a influx of real low paying clicks. CTR is not up at all, it is actually about where it should be (since two impressions per page on these pages the max you could have if everyone clicked on ad is 50%). As i figured, this little idea of googles does nothing but lower my earnings and make my pages look like a flea market of ads (when they bother to even show ads).

There's an easy way to avoid the "flea market" look: Don't run multiple ad units.

Very true. Multiple units have been removed never to return.
-"Exhausting" googles inventory really makes no sense. Advertisers are not charged per impression, so the only "exhaustion" would be by clicks. Additional ad units are not going to make people return to the site to click more ads. After click behavio is not changed. Google could care less where the ads are clicked on. If they are clicked on, google gets paid and I get paid.
I hope that comment was more a joke than an actual serious thought.
Actually CTR is holding up....if it was 10% before, it is about 6% now so that is fine but my EPC has sunk through the floor. Even allowing for the extra units, my EPC has shrunk by 40% and I have had a VERY stable EPC for months and months....even April 1 not having had that big an effect on it.
I am putting all second ad units on a separate channel which I lazily didn't do before. Then giving it a full week or two to see if this is a normal drop or something out of the ordinary.
On our main page only the original unit located in the header is displaying ads,but the other two just show a blank space.
However on our other pages which contain less content,(archive, polls,FAQ,etc),all three units are displaying ads.
If Google can supply enough ads to fill the units on our secondary pages, why can they not fill our main page which has constantly changing content?
Also, I don't think the use of 3 ad blocks by necessity looks tacky or drives revenue down. It depends to some extent on the pages in question. Do you have longer pages that can absorb more adds without taking on the flea market look? If so, try it. The clincher there would be that you actually have "real" pages to begin with. It also takes a bit more thinking on the part of the webmaster. Perhaps three leaderboards would drive your quality perception into the basement and your revenue to ground zero. But what about a different approach--for instance, a banner (two ads) and two half banners (single ad). In such a case, you're showing 4 ads total, nothing more than a single leaderboard. However, with that approach you're increasing the number of click points throughout the total page. And, if your page talks about more than one subject, you're opening the various parts of the page up to more inventory opportunity by drawing ads that are more relevant to each part of the page.
The jury is still out. But, good grief, I wouldn't make any hasty decisions based on a hurricane holiday weekend.
It's not possible to guage the effect of one change if another change is made at the same time. In fact, these changes happening just before a long weekend make it all but impossible to evaluate any results accurately.
Thus, this is apparently not a test. Google seems to have decided to make these changes longterm. I suppose we had better get uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuused to it.
