you dont have to optimize google adsense, it's a job of BIG G people you just have to look after your website content and try to increace your website visitors by getting some quality link back if your site is worth. More Visitors on your site meens more chances for getting the adsense ads clicked from your website, it also depends on what your site is related to and what kind of ads are avalable with google adsense for your website, also see that google is not displaying Public Service Ads (PSA) that wont help you gain a single cent. Best of luck

One thing that can be done from your side is to make your website search engine friendly.

Try using a heat map to place your ads in positions that are more likely to be noticed:

Periodically, do check the ads that are appearing on your site. If they don't seem to be related to your subject, you may need to tweak the wording of some of your articles, in order to make the ads more relevant.

Wording is an issue. For a site about "Widgets in Elbonia" you may get lots of ads connected with Elbonia while what will attract clicks are ads connected with Widgets.

The trouble is that any method of keyword weighting on the publisher's part could easily be abused.
