Lets say I have a website with English content and I'm looking for more money.

How much can I earn from adsense with 12.000.000 page views and cool content about technology?

I know you can't say some exact price but you can guess something at least if you have some experience (I don't have) with adsense. I'll put adsense to my website after answers.

Thanks.

As for direct sales being better than AdSense, that's probably good advice for e-commerce vendors, but it's irrelevant advice for publishers of information sites.

huh? direct ad sales are irrelevant advice for publishers of informational sites? so cnn.com should not do any direct ad sales? are you kidding?

Sorry, J, I thought you meant "direct sales" as opposed to "direct ad sales." (It wouldn't be the first time that people here have advocated e-commerce for everyone.)

In any case, direct ad sales and AdSense CPC ads serve different purposes and different markets. The two can coexist very profitably, which is why so many "big media" sites use both. (On my own site, I use display ads, AdSense, and affiliate programs; the combination is more profitable--and more secure--than relying on any one revenue stream.)

CNN is powered by Google? Thanks to WW I learn something new every day. :-)
Just because the search is provided by Google it does not mean CNN is powered by Google.

I'm sure ESPN, FOX, Forbes, MTV and other big players are hooked on adSense and do no direct ad sales.

Direct ad sales? What a waste of time! Just use AdSense! :-)

No one is saying don't do any direct ad sales, re-read the thread and I think you will see I suggest to test. test. test. Including adsense. Not excluding direct ad sales nor excluding adsense. That is all. I am not saying it is better or worse, the point is neither of us know for sure and the original poster is better off testing adsense than not knowing or going by others suggestions that it is a waste of time.

Hopefully he'll let us know how his results turn out.
