It depends on the detail.

You need to read the terms and conditions carefully, and see what applies to your site.

In general, it is safer (and better!), to build the site and allow visitors to make their own minds up. Encouraging friends to use an Adsense service is almost certainly not wise - especially as some will try too hard and their behaviour will trigger something at Adsense.

i have set the directory up and there are categories that those can choose from, but i have also added google search tool so they can search the site or google. My concern is that if someone used the site as there homepage to use the site/usae google whether that would be a problem? I know i cannot control others activities on the site.

I know i cannot control others activities on the site.

Read the rules, and break them at your own risk.

If you didn't want to hear that, why ask? ;)

And what would be the possibility of that? Somewhere below zero!

Is this different from their "AdSense for Search" product?

According to Google, "Website publishers participating in the AdSense program can place a Google WebSearch box on their site and Google will deliver search results and search-targeted ads. When users click on these ads, Google shares the revenue with the web publisher."

The rules are pretty reasonable: "The Google AdSense terms and conditions state that search queries must originate from individual human end users inputting data directly into a WebSearch box, and that search results should not be activated from a software application (including toolbars)."

Google seems pretty reasonable about this sort of thing; you can even co-brand the search results (or not).

I'm involved in a project where we use this, and it provides a good stream of revenue.
