pardon my extreme ignorance *smirk*

Is this new?

Link unit... horizontal, 5 links I think.
And instead of links it shows:

View ads about [neat little search box] [>>]

(yes. the user is asked to QUERY FOR ads. oh geez.)

...

It's cute! actually. merry Xmas btw *ha*
It's so small I could even forgive it for being there instead of ads that'd bring in money.

Okay, like hell I did.
What is this.

Not new, sorry. Link units have been doing that since their inception. Fortunately, they don't do it real often and it doesn't seem to last long before they're back to their normal display. It's as if they have a momentary lapse of reason, memory or whatever.

Ah, good to hear...

Funny how all these years I have *never* ever seen it on any of my sites, nor anywhere else.
it's been there for two days now *sob*

anyway, thanks for the info.

It also happens when either Google does not know what the page is really about or the page has objectionable content. This happens because Google cannot show public service ads for this format.

Thought of that, but in this case neither applies.

Site is soaking in relevancy - has been for over a year - ranks top, and AdSense is happy to show relevant ads for all the other units...
