Using old style ads

Can it still be done?

Can I still use the old style ad code instead of the new ad units?

Google's page says [google.com]

you're also welcome not to use the new feature and simply continue generating ad code as you have in the past

But there doesn't seem to be an option anywhere to do this? Have I missed something?

I think that quote might have meant "generating ads on your page" (by using existing code) and not "generating ad code which you place on a page" (by being able to generate old-style code)...

I used managed ads for two days on one site but went back to the old-style by simply re-instituting my old code which I had backed-up.

I haven't found a way to generate old style code either, which annoys me greatly.

I did generate code for what I thought was just about every possible version of code I might want and saved it to my hard drive.

Naturally, the adblock style I want now wasn't one I thought to create before the change.

oh well.

You don't generate ads on your page. You generate ads when you log into your Adsense account. Sorry, I disagree with your interpretation. To me it's plain that they are claiming you can generate the old ads like you used to do before.

If they are happy for new channels I create today to be used in old code then the only way is to break the TOS and modify the channel number in the old code and just use that? Maybe we should all just send them emails each time we generate our own code and ask them to approve it or re-enable the feature on their site.

I've been doing that from the start.

Just don't specify a channel and don't name the ad. Then click on "next" and it'll give you code anyway, with none of the extras and without saving ads by name.

It's a convenience to not have to specify all the details of ads each time when they're named and saved for future use with the new system, but the ads are still available the "old" way.

Marcia: What you said was not true on my account. I just did exactly what you said, and I got a new style, unnamed (but with an ID number) ad, with a corresponding new unnamed ad in my ad management list.

I got the same result as fredw, but I'd like to be able to generate the complete old style code.

Anyone know if that's possible?

Doesn't work for me either.

I get

<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-00000000000";
//728x90, created 00/00/00
google_ad_slot = "12354678";
google_ad_width = 728;
google_ad_height = 90;
//--></script>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
</script>

Google's page (see OP) that says simply continue generating ad code as you have in the past is obviously wrong. Why would they try to give the impression that the old ads are available when they are not?

I've saved my old ad codes from each channel in a text file. If for some reason you didn't save the old codes, you can find them by entering your URL at the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

I'm wondering, however, why one would want to go through the trouble of creating old style code at this point? I'm sure tons of users are creating and using new ads style with no adverse effects. Indeed, after a confusing start for myself on the first day they were enabled, I have just added a new site to my list of sites that have Adsense on them, and I have installed new style ads units on this site and they're working great.
