I placed ads on the top of the page. I used to get good CTR but that reduced my page impressions. When I placed it at the bottom I am getting good page impression but less CTR and of course less money. Can anybody guide , what will be the best strategy for long run?

Are you selling something? If not, probably better to send those people off and earn money through Adsense. If your site is e-commerce or something that profits more from keeping someone on your site, then you might want to make Adsense a second priority and keep it at the bottom.

"did you try along the side of the page?"

Yes. It was better than the bottom but it really disturbs my theme and the design of the page.

What if I concentrate on more and more page impressions and leave the rest?

Making the most money is the most important thing. I would make a 1% CTR over 30% if I made more money at the end of the day.
