I noticed on a couple of my websites that this happened, I specified a locally served 'ad' and they went away, my ad showed up instead. The same occurred to all the public news spots...
BTW, great forum here.. now I just gotta learn to code CSS/HTML strict.. heh...

Ahh, no, the site in question is quite possibly the most popular topic online (not porno the next one).
Google can really kiss my _ _ _ already. "In a state of flux"? Are you kidding me? What kind of fly by night company is this. I hope you all remember the comments I made about google being the worst run company on the S&P. I also hope you all read the article in the Financial Times about a week ago that said Google is BY FAR the worst managed company in the S&P as rated by the S&P rating criteria. I think Google got a .3 out of 100 score.
This is a joke already Google, I hope google employees read this and figure out how much of a joke Google really is.
I have removed AdSense from most pages as it reflects very poorly on site quality to have erratic bahavior like that.
Why would Google not want you to generate revenue, regardless of how you got the traffic, within their tos of course?
Not only is this a problem for publishers, but it has got to be a big problem for Google in terms of their lost revenue. And the fact that this has been an ongoing problem, it has got to add up to a noticable loss.
One would think that after a rather difficult IPO, Google would need to accelarate the inflow of dollars.
G might do that to eliminate the extreme fringe, at the cost of minor inconvenience to the mainstream.
A big adwords buyer driving traffic to AdSense is not mainstream, in that the adsense site is a "made for adsense" site. To eliminate the extreme cases, delay the ad serving and collect the adwords dollars for zero net gain on the part of the publisher. Extremely "made for adsense" sites will shut down. Adwords still gets paid.

Wow, a lot of aggression there. If things are so bad, why not just put your money where your mouth is and actually quit adsense?
Wide range, more ads to choose from?
Yes of course. Even if the topic of the page has limited advertisers, if the main theme of your site offers a deep variety of advertisers, then your Adsense will still show ads. Ads may not be 100% on-target, but based on this thread, even untargeted ads may be better than no ads at all. It pays to have a site with a diversified topic.
For the last half-hour (at least -- maybe longer, hadn't checked my sites since yesterday) none of my sites were spitting back AdSense ads.
On a hunch I went ahead and checked using my AOL connection and the ads came up fine. Went back to my broadband Internet Explorer connection -- still down.
Could it be? Could Google possibly have disabled the showing of ads from publisher ISPs to avoid the production of illegal clicks (intended or otherwise)?
If so it's a blessing in many ways -- though I'll be forever curious as to how efficiently the ads are being targeted.
I don't think that's the case at all. I believe that there are some ad server/software issues at google that are responsible for this problem and clearly either they don't see it as big enought to demand their time or it really is a complicated mess.
