AdSense ads on a links page?

I'm working on a site with my index page containing a hyperlink to a "Links" page off of that page. It is common knowledge that a links page will work in the favor of your site, so far as SEO is concerned. My next question then, is whether or not it would be logical to include AdSense ads on a links page?

Make sure you add other content... relevant text about each link, etc... and keep the number of links to a minimum. Personally I think links pages are bad news but there are many who don't.

I don't include adsense on any of my links pages because IMO it's a sure way to earn 3 cent clicks

Thanks Scuramung . . . in no way would I want to earn just three pennie for a click...so, I am curious...maybe just keep AdSense off of any links page I assume...

Yes, that is what I ended up doing, as I found within various trials that performance for both Adblocks and Adlinks was abysimal in the longer term.

Will earning 3 cents a click for certain pages effect your ENTIRE site's performance?

And I guess it would depend on your niche as well; my links pages are some of my highest performing pages; earning me on average around 25 cents per click. (which transfers into some low paying clicks, and even some clicks close to one dollar)

Sorry, but this is not true.
It depends on many factors, but it does work. IF done correctly.

On one of my sites, my "links page" is one of the highest earners, with dimes per click.

I put quotes around the words "links page" because it is not your usual links page, stuffed with links to many, many other unrelated sites. I don't do link exchanges. Rather, the not so many links on that page are all on-topic to my site's theme/product. I am doing this is as a service to my site visitors. In effect, I am potentially redirecting visitors to my competitors, but that's sort of okay because I don't charge for my "product" anyway.

Lame_wolf: I'm not sure what you're talking about....you say it isn't true a links page will help SEO, then after that you say it will help SEO if done properly (?). Then the next post it works GREAT for him. Earning dimes per click...so I am at a loss.
Basically my links page has links broken down into categories and like the previous poster, I only list links that are about the nature of my site. I get offers from CASINOS, VIAGRA places PHARMACEUTICALS etc....none of which I trade with.

I did not say that. The OP stated this :
"It is common knowledge that a links page will work in the favor of your site, so far as SEO is concerned."

That statement is untrue - as my reply stated.

SEO does work on link pages.
ADSENSE does work on link pages.

Is that clear? :)

A page of relevant annotated links on a specific topic can perform very well with AdSense. It can also be useful to readers, unlike generic catchall "links pages" that exist solely for link exchanges.

If it's worth it is a matter of topic and traffic I think.

I have the best luck with AdSense on links pages where I put links to relevant commercial sites.

I like to use one adblock on each page along with one 4 line Adlinks unit on each page.

I think I am in line with what many of the people here do; basically my links are setup into categories and topics that benefit my readers, and then each link has a description and short bits of information. I NEVER list links that aren't on topic with my site, as I feel this would degrade the value of the links I have put together for my users.

If leaving AdSense off your links page in hopes of avoiding 3 penny clicks meant you would also avoid 3 penny AdSense clicks on your non-links pages, that would be a good strategy. But it doesn't.

If you don't have another means of monetizing the links page, 3 cents per click might not be so bad, as compared to earning nothing, assuming you want to monetize the page.

As always, it really depends on the content of the links. If it's a list of links for free downloads, the clicks might be worth a few pennies. But if the links page is a list of retailers where someone can buy a purple widget, then purple widget ad clicks should earn more.

All the responses are great...wish I could post a link to my links page but am keeping the TOS in mind. I offer an image graphics service and exchange with oter image graphics services including categorized listings on my links page such as publishing companies (who utilize these services from time to time), web designers who also utilize graphics and also other categories are consultants because they use graphics in PowerPoint & so forth. I put one single horizontal banner (728 X 90) atop the page. I just might delete the table containing this banner from what I have heard in this thread though. Thank you all . . . .
