Big Ad, Small Link

Just recently a big chunk of the ads being served on my site are flash ads for a major US automaker. I'm pleased to some extent because these ads are providing more income.

What I have noticed though is some of them when completed animating only have a small hot spot where you can click it. The link text is hot spot and says "Check it out" but there is arrow pointing to image which is not hot.

A little misleading and is no doubt providing free advertising if the user can't find the link and ends up just typing the URL in for the product.

Metaphorically

Y'know I wouldn't be surprised to see the same thing start happening in text ads now that just the title is clickable. Short title, long description, short url. Get CPM while paying for CPC or vice-versa.

It already has. Many ads include phone numbers and a call to action such "ring now to receive....."', "call us to find out..." etc.
