CTR down? Could your site be responsible?

I noticed this thread here on WW - [webmasterworld.com...]

Those may be just anecdotal opinions. But if that line of thought is growing among web users, I can see how it would tend to depress CTR.

Good point, FB. How many people, when confronted with a falling CTR, consider the possibility that it might be caused by their own actions: ie, design, ad placement, overuse of adblocks, etc?

Wouldn't it be human nature to place the blame on something outside our control? This opens up possibilities that we all should consider in an honest self evaluation... if that's possible.

Thanks for the thread link.

I think it's all a lot of misdirection. We don't change anything, with the exception of updating dated material, have never used multiple ad blocks, and the vast majority of our traffic is from search. Adsense is simply paying us less.

I agree, my pages have stayed the same for a long time, the cost per. click goes up and down and has nothing to do with what is on the web page itself. When I am being paid a 3 cents a click or sometimes less, I go in and change the channel name and the shock of something happening to the system wakes it back up and it starts paying me more for the clicks.
