Relevant ads are not showing, but I have higher eCPM

I run a site that just recently launched a month ago today. Most of the content on my site is not the average type of content. Let's just say that I run a type of statistics website and each page just contains a bunch of data.

A bad part about this, however, is that most of the ads on my site appear to be coming from keywords yanked from the data section instead of the general theme of my website.

A while back I tried changing the data field names to be an image instead of text. The site started showing relevant ads, but my eCPM went down from $1.20 to $0.50!

Now, my question is this: should I keep the unrelated ads on the website? or should I change to relevant ads and just HOPE that the eCPM will improve?

In general the more relevant the ads the better is the revenue, but not all irrelevant ads are bad. For instance I may be reading an article about stem cell research but then I saw an ad for a cheap ticket to Florida. If it is cold and dreary outside I might click on the ad to see if I can go there for a weekend.

So, I would be better off moving back to the keywords, even though in testing that for 1 day made me horrible earnings?
