i have gotten fed up with normal affiliate program which are very inconsistant to say the least
Don't expect consistency from Google Adsense. You might want to read some of the current threads on recent earnings threads if you are thinking of completely dumping all your affiliates.
You will need to experiment in order for you to evaluate what works best on your site and which pages perform best. Having said that however, I prefer to take a minimalist approach as I find that less is definitely more. For instance, I find that for the same ads displayed on diffrent pages of my website, EPC will vary greatly. Therefore I now restrict my Adsense advertising to one adblock on the best performing page and deploy other ad vendors on those pages where adsense does not perform.
