For how many affected people did ecpm recover?

Our ecpm dropped by 50% on Oct 20, when the channel glitch occured. I saw that for some people here it recovered a few days ago. For us it did not. Are we alone? For how many people did it recover?

Also, for those for whom it has recovered, did you complain to Google about this?

Have they been replacing the rubber bands?

I don't think they replace them when they break HP, I think they just tie them together again which of course makes them much "tighter"!

Yes, my Clicks, CTR, eCPM and $$s now all down to 20% ... but impressions down only to 80%... compared to mid October.

My Custom Channels were very wrong for days ...

Disappointed...

@security56
Agree with you. Crappy ads, unrelated. Every day new crappy ads arrive. Blocking them is useless in certain niches.

I was one of those hit by the Oct. 20 phenomenon. As of yesterday, and continuing today, I'm seeing a return to normal (pre-20th) eCPM, CTR, and earnings. This adds to my suspicion that the eCPM drop was, in some way, a consequence of the problem with the channels data and not one that was intended by Google.

security56 & rxbbx,

That would explain why Clicks, CTR, eCPM and $$s all down, but impressions maintained...

I don't see any "crappy" ads, but the ads served are un-spacific to the page displayed. I also noticed some specificity-leak, eg ads for keywords-specific-for-page-1 showing up on page-2-with-different-keywords. WHY would people want to click on ads for Widgets, if the page is about Gizmos...

Of course also HUGE drop in Google SERP, from 7 -> 7 -> 9 -> 429 in last 4 weeks as per GWT... (VERY REVEALING to have the "1 month ago" "3 weeks ago" "2 weeks ago" "Last 7 days" feature in GWT...)

Reviewing the SERP, one thing I have noticed is that there appear to be now many news sources (newspapers, periodicals, etc.) ahead of me...

BTW, no major changes to site last 8 weeks... and no TLAs, cloaking, etc...

Depressing...

Friday saw many channels returning to average EPC levels over the course of the day HOWEVER with such a reduction in CTR since Glitch Day (-22.06% v yearly average) my eCPM still looks as though it's in the pan!

I wonder if today's maintenance will resolve this?

@KVeil
Impressions maintained indeed. No problems with traffic. But the Ads are getting worser, even unrelated but correct keywords. I dont have enough options with only 200 urls. If I block one.. next day I have 10 MFA sites back with useless info. Some areas / niches are worser then others ofcourse. I saw "oct20" glitch.. but i think some people will agree that this is going on for a longer period. Perhaps all off-topic what I wrote, but If google cant provide quality, people wont click or make an action, ecpm dropps. Who to blame? I am not an expert, perhaps I am all wrong but its still annoying. Thinking of switching Adsense for Affiliates at those sites.

I didn't get hit much by the oct 20th thing... perhaps I was at the bottom already.

As I mentioned before, I see many many new/different advertisers on my pages.

I also see targeting is generally correct but not as specific as it used to be - this accounts for the new mix of advertisers.

As a result of the slightly less focused ads my CTR is down somewhat. However, my CPC is up nearly 60% over the last week. Likely due to the additional advertisers competing on the pages.

Overall my CPM is up a bit - maybe 30%.

I like the changes since I'm not hammering the few advertisers that used to show up. Now clicks are spread around a little (with less clicks generally). This is better for the long term.

I'm also seeing a few huge click values - haven't seen that since last year.

To add more competition I cleared out my blocked sites too.

Keep up these good changes Google!

All of Friday and all of this morning before maintenence have (abruptly) returned to pre-glitch levels. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

What amazes me is the abject unwillingness of some to accept the reality of this and their absurd rationalizations to attribute it to normal market fluctuations. Actually it doesn't amaze me, it simply reminds me of my long-held and disturbing contempt for ordinary human intelligence in general.

Just after Saturday maintenance here. Oh my. Lowest ecpm ever. If this keeps up, I'm going to be in negative numbers.

We are in negative numbers. We have a large componet of the site where we cannot put any ads, and our total bandwidth costs $x,000/mo. For this month November, adsense will not cover even the bandwidth.

I'm glad to report that my Ecpm and CTR have returned to normal as of today. I didn't change a thing! Best luck to you all. I may be near tears again by tonight :)

If we have a really good evening, we may just make half of what was our norm for this time of year. That's something to look forward to!

Ditto! Some of the stupidest smart people I've ever seen. It's not them so they get all pushy with their ridiculous theories about why we're wrong.

My eCPM has recovered some, which has been cool. It's not pre-glitch by any means, although each morning it starts off strong and fools me.

Has anyone else noticed this pattern:

Extremely high eCPM until about 9am CST then a steady decline with a spike again starting at around 11pm until 9am or so. It may just be me, I think my advertisers have possibly set their accounts to show at maximum pace until they have reached budget... you just never know!

One more thing, is anyone else noticing that the hours of sleep you are getting at night has had a direct correlation with the sharp decrease in eCPM?

Now I know why I had several days this last week that I only got 2 to 3 hours sleep. I got 5 today.

I thought this morning as things were almost back to normal I'd sleep tonight - guess I'm back down to 3 hours with the rest of you. My earning tanked mid-afternoon!

Thats why we have a forum.. to brainstorm about things. I think my problem at those sites are other things then that pre glitch issue. But I must admit other sites are back to normal.
