I have a site that is only 1 week old
I am having about 1k to 1.2k unique per day but my CTR is 0%

I don't blame the visitors that's mainly because the ads are COMPLETELY irrelevant to the content :(

Does adsense performs so badly on some sites?
should i reconsider adsense at all?
any alternatives?

It is too early to take a decision either way. Give yourself a month or so. Create more content so that the ads get more targeted to your users. Generally speaking if the ads are targeted enough and positioned on the page well, you should see clicks unless you run a website for webmasters or business people who are least likely to click on most ads.

I'd give Google six to eight weeks time to get the targeting OK and to see improved eCPM and EPC. A week is way too early to allow for any conclusions. (Having said that, a CTR of 0% is probably not a good sign overall - your users do not even click out of curiosity.)

thanks for your input guys
I think it will never really work, it is mainly a webpage for ppl to download a freeware i'm working on so a lot of traffic but google can't target since there is no real content (and i think will never be)

why dont you create some content about the freeware thus giving google something to target on. e.g. features, bens, info or reviews.

Taking a guess, I imagine that this is what your users are doing, they come to your freeware download, they download the freeware, and then they go play with the freeware and forget about doing anymore surfing.
Overall, you're dealing with a determined visitor.

If you're really wanting to monetize a page like this, adsense is probably not the way to go. Maybe a $ version of the freeware with some extra features. Or as Dilly said create content relating to the freeware that people would want to come back and read and hopefully click on some well targeted ads. With some good content you'd probably be able to retain 25% of the users coming for the freeware.

I don't agree, Although I don't know any specifics of your page. I'm not sure if I'm crossing the line on specifics here but I monetize a niche freeware site and do so exceptionally well.... that is aside from the October (and running...) glitch that some of us are stuck in. I've quit my day job and work doing what I love to do... don't give up... just keep creating content. Real content like reviews and lots of specifics. Just remember, be a useful resource in the area you serve. Targeting from adsense is dead on for me, give it some time.

Free software is incredible link bait. Use the strength of your site to give your content sites with adsense a boost.
