Maintenance Saturday Followed By Awful Sunday!

This Occurs Everytime, Why?

For me a completely normal traffic day yet again my metrics were hammered after a maintenance Saturday, in fact the worst eCPM I have ever experienced.

Overall earnings and eCPM down by some 30%, EPC remained within the usual range however one main earning site had everything slashed by half having its worst day in three years!

After four years I know these are not normal AdSense fluctuations therefore do not try and convince me they are however I would love to know why this happens to me every time after a maintenance Saturday.

I'm sure there are those of you who experience the opposite, just remember you've got my earnings and I'm coming round for them:-)

You'll have to catch me first....

I had a pretty awful Thursday and Friday, but everything bounced back from Saturday on, even though one of my main pages apparently is 950'd in the serps.

However, my ecommerce clients all had really awful orders counts for the weekend. So maybe overall, it was just a lousy weekend.

Sunday was my best eCPM day this month. Go figure.

Well don't come here looking!

I'll get a flashlight and help you look but we gotta split it. :)

Mine are dismal and way low since just before the wonderful maintenance...I wish I could find something comparable to adsense...Oh well when it's the only game in town you play it.

I'm seeing the same thing as HuskyPup. Earnings have gone down about 1/3, yet traffic is retively stable.

I had a great Sunday, only now, the Monday is terrible

This trend is since some weeks.

Very good Sunday, weak Monday, good Tuesday

Me too having one dollar missing from my eCPM but I perfectly know why, and I am more than OK with it, I sort of arranged for it myself..

HuskyPup,
Ever consider that what has been happening to you in the past 3 years was the fluke and what you are repeatedly seeing now is your new norm?

What I've noticed is that my reports are out of sync. Aggregate data and channel data show different click totals. I've seen this before but it's usually back in sync within hours. Right now everything Saturday on is out of sync.

the past 3 years was the fluke

Lol...this past week has seen some very strange CTR and eCPM metrics for me after a reasonably stable period.

Maybe a major US widget trade show had an influential factor however I doubt it since whenever there have been even bigger widget trade shows my metrics have varied very little.

Interestingly the major advertisers in my trade do not use monthly budgets they mostly advertise by region since it would be pointless for them to even consider import/export, that's my area of widget trade expertise.

Overall it would be nice to know from G whether CTR has declined in general during the past 4 years, my sites certainly suggest so and it would be reasonable to assume that with more sites displaying AdSense that Joe Surfer has become more selective when and where they click.

It will be interesting to see how this week pans out since I am now, in earnings, substantially down from last year for the month.

I've being doing great for the first half of the day (europe visitors mostly), then really badly for the second half (lots of US and Canada visitors). Possibly there was some geotargeting involved in the update.

Signs of a pick up from a very long flat summer though.

I just compared January 1-October 19, 2007 to the same period in 2005 and 2006. This year's CTR was slightly higher than the two previous years; CTR in 2005 and 2006 was almost identical. (I didn't go back to 2003 or 2004 because I was using a different ad format for at least part of that period.)

I think CTR is less likely to decline over time on sites where users are researching ways to spend their money. If people are thinking of purchasing an Elbonian inner-tube cruise, a resort stay on Widget Island, or a digital whatsit, they'll be less subject to "ad blindness" than a less motivated audience might be, and they'll regard the ads as useful tools in their research. (That's why mail-order tire dealers advertise in CAR AND DRIVER, camera dealers advertise in POPULAR PHOTOGRAPHY, and the quack-weight-loss-scheme of-the-month club advertises in DIET DIGEST.)

HuskyPup

Interesting EFV, my CTR for the same periods in 2005 and 2006 were virtually identical however for this year it has fallen 23.3% and just from the first 3 months of 2007 until the 3 months as yesterday I have seen a 13% reduction.

My EPC has increased the past 3 months however, realistically, only by the amount the US Dollar has depreciated!

And we know that if we come here complaining that the Plex will set everything right since, so far today, all appears to have gone back to my recent normal metrics:-)

Keeps us busy second-guessing what they're doing I suppose?

I am experiencing a similar issue -

Traffic is actually up overall, but earnings and eCPM are down approx 30%. I noticed this starting on Friday and it seems to be in a holding pattern.

Also noticed as this was happening, that the Adsense reporting seemed very delayed in the custom reports compared to the overview.

The overview usually is behind compared to the custom reports, but the last few days has been the opposite. (For me anyway)

I'm seeing similar and today it is even more diabolical, just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it does do, now the worst eCPM ever, 40% down on this month's norm!

Yesterday seemed to recover for a while and then it just slid right away, today it's not even got anywhere near "normal".

One bright note is that my EPC is fine!?!?!?

My Monday and Tuesday earnings were each down 33% respectively to their previous week counterparts. Yesterday hit its lowest eCPM and EPC levels this month. Today is looking even worse again.

With a system as complex as AdSense I find it hard to believe that a channels glitch would not screw even a little with a publisher's earning potential. I hope I'm wrong about that.

AdSense eCPM in freefall today.

Wednesday's eCPM was my lowest ever and down 40%, actual earnings were down compared to normal Wenesdays by 35%.

Today's eCPM so far down by 65% compared to the whole of 2007.

Since Tuesday 16th October only Wednesday 17th and Saturday 20th have had average metrics the rest have been as follows:

16th -17%
17th Normal
18th -14%
19th -17%
20th Normal
21st -33%
22nd -15%
23rd -21%
24th -40%
25th -65%

My traffic is completely stable and working with normal ranges, my EPC is within its normal range.

What on earth have they broken? The clickety click click button?

Interesting. I'm seeing this too, yet total earnings are poor.

I've had a slightly but consistently lower CTR this week, starting with Monday. On the brighter side, average EPC has crept up a bit, but not enough to compensate for the modest decline in clickthroughs.

It's possible that the CTR decline is seasonal (this is my slow time of year), but it's also possible that Google is being more aggressive in throwing out repeat clicks or other clicks that might be considered "invalid" from an advertiser's point of view.

In a new thread, IncrediBILL and other members made some observations about the possible impact of California fires and the World Series on AdSense income:

[webmasterworld.com...]

The fires certainly could explain a modest drop in traffic and/or CTR for a site with an international audience or a larger drop for a site that caters to people in California.

Now I am again in the Google filter hell.

27 th June 2006, this happened first time.

End of January 2007, all my domains free agein

Begining June, my best earning sub domain was hit

Just right now, my second best earning sub domain.

It's really demotivating, if I have every day whe looking for the status of my domains, I have the feeling like I am the defendant in jury court and the jurymen are just entering the room.

I was just coming back looking for a ground to built in 2009 a house, and now this disaster.

And it's so complete mysteriouse

There are 10 subdomains.
Why are now 4 subdomains filtered and 6 free?`

All the same layout.

I'm seeing perfectly normal stats. This actually gives me a good metric to look at. My visitors don't live in So Cal nor do they watch baseball.

Kinda depressing, especially the baseball thing.

My epc and ecpm are great. My traffic is great. My CTR has plummeted this week; less than a third of what it was last week. And that's for mostly halloween related sites that are all ranking in the top 20 in the organics, so if anything the CTR should be UP. The ads seem to be good and targeted (as much as I can tell; obviously I don't see what everyone else sees) Bleah.
