CTR Extremely Low Thursday October 18th, 2007

Is it just me? Today my CTR is at around 33% of normal. I haven't really looked into it yet, so I'm not sure if people don't feel like clicking today, or if Google is sitting on a bunch of clicks. The ads look normal, so it's not like I got a bunch of weird off-topic ads.

Has anyone else noticed an unusually low CTR today?

Just come here to see if anyone else had seen low earnings today!

I initially put it down to the first day of a major US widget trade exhibition however after checking my metrics some of my sites are way down on CTR and eCPM yet others are spot on their CTR and eCPM averages albeit with very low traffic.

Strange, very strange, must be the weather, somewhere, whether or not there is any strange weather anywhere:-)

PS Please give me a click dump to take away this headache!

Well it's starting to recover and now CTR is at 2/3 of normal. Hopefully things catch up by the end of the day.

Maybe this is proof of FarmBoy's theory that if you complain about something here at WW, Google will read your post, figure out who you are and do something about it...

Mines pretty high today. Google has been strangely inconsistent recently. I usually make a similar amount but recently it can vary quite considerably.

Thursday eneded up within the usual range however today nothing seems to be updating except a few page impressions for me, all other metrics are about 1/3 of where I'd normally expect them to be.

So, just what did they do during the maintenance last weekend? Install a go even slower reporting script?

No they added the "Head towards SmartPricing to do pass through ClickDump" code.

Did they actually have the maintenance last weekend? ( I was at the football game; couldn't get a consistent wifi signal in the stadium) AdWords is going to be down this weekend because they rescheduled last weekend's maintenance, so that probably means AdSense will be down tomorrow too.

No idea however it probably explains why the batteries are flat though, not enough sparks for my clicks!

My CTR this month is down just a bit from September, which was down just a bit from August. It'll be down another notch in November.

In other words, no surprises (and no big, inexplicable day-to-day fluctuations): just the usual autumn lull before things pick up again in January.

Well, I went from 18 to 25% across all sites combined every day since the beginning of the month, to 7% yesterday and 9% today. Seems odd. Specially when traffic is up for all my halloween related stuff.

That's exactly how I felt yesterday.

It's common for eCPM to fluctuate, although my impressions and CTR are usually fairly consistent. But yesterday, CTR was at 1/3 of normal until sometime in the afternoon, when it "jumped" to 2/3 of normal. It stayed there for the rest of the day. Today, it's back to normal.

I have to admit, this seems to be a very low day compared to the past weeks (which were good to me, I don't want to post only to complain). Hoping for a click dump, or at least some rational reason (major holiday, warm weather, etc).

Not one day this past Monday to Friday has reached my monthly daily CTR average, anywhere up to 20% down and compared to last year, even though page impressions are up, CTR is down 25%, eCPM down 13.7% and average daily earnings down just over 10%.

Horrible metrics after a reasonably stable period.

Nothing unusual. The OP posted their clicks came back on Friday and were normal. The same thing that happens everyday at AdWords and on this forum.

One of my sites took a dive for a week then this week came back at double previous week ecpm. Another site is doing not so good. Some winners, some losers. Happens every day of every week of every month. Nothing unusual. Supply, demand, seasons, holidays, aggressive bidders, savvy bidders.
