.gov sites without copyright notices // public domain

ok for adsense?

I have wrote to a few websites that offer scam information for a new site i am creating that are .gov / public domain. They have given ma a good reference of articles that ARE public domain.

My question is, if I am sure they are public domain ...am I able to copy these, upload articles to my website and put adsense on them? Will google shut me down for putting ads on public domain? Im not worried about low ranking if others have it as it is made to compliment my original content

As for the copyright issue, government sites are not copyrighted. For reference, see:

[copyright.gov...]

"Works by the U. S. government are not eligible for U. S. copyright protection."

On the AdSense issue, I don't think there will be a problem. I have seen ads on sites that have public domain content. In particular, I know of a few websites that offer public domain photographs, and they display AdSense ads.

Some information on some government sites is copyrighted. This is usually information that was created via a government contract to a private company.

I've found some really great stuff on gov't sites. I usually email the POC contact listed and have always received an OK to use the materials. Usually they request attribution.

I keep the emails in a folder forever just in case the issue ever comes up.

I was looking at a lot of pics that would fit in with my sites at the Library of Congress. There is a notice that the LOC cannot guarantee the copyright status of any of the pics. I ended up just putting links to the pics instead of copying and putting them on the sites.
