What are google hints?

Did I miss something?

I was just looking at a competitors web site, trying to figure out how they got their AdSense ad block to look they way it does, when I noticed a line in their AdSense code that looks like:

google_hints = "keyword keyword keyword keyword"

Is this new? Was I sleeping when this was announced?

"Premium publishers" have had access to hints for quite a while.

It would be nice if everyone could use them, but Google probably knows that, like meta keywords, the hints would be abused by nitwits who'd slap "viagra" or "mesothelioma" or "debt consolidation" hints on every page.

It's not new. But it's only available to premium publishers.

... and if you're not a premium publisher, you probably don't want to add that tag to your Adsense code.
