Google Ad Placement Policies

I keep experimenting with my Ad placements and occassionally go back and read the Google AdSense Programme policies - and it may be old age or something, yet they seem to change every time I read them.

I remember reading that AdSense Link Units - one was allowed only 1 per page - it now says three! is this my memory or did I read it wrong a couple of years ago.

Now I am pretty confused about using AdSense Search - especially when trying to meet the "must be on a page with content" rule.

I remember reading about Search that no other Google Advert should be used - I am positive I read this just 3 weeks ago, yet today I have just read ...

"AdSense for search results pages may show only a single ad link unit in addition to the ads Google serves with the search results. No other ads may be displayed on your search results page."

This appears to say that you can display another Adsense advert on the same page - I am looking at using the Search results on my own site.

Anyone have ideas on this? Am I correct in thinking that I can have a page that delivers the results of a search, has a search box on it AND a Google Ad Unit - and not much else other than a Graphic and links to important areas of my website (menu).

Forget what you may have read a few years ago. Standards have loosened, and you can now display ads in ways that weren't allowed back in 2003 or 2004. Whether you should throw caution and self-restraint to the winds is another question altogether. Too many ad units could turn off readers, or--just as important--having a bunch of ad units on a page could reduce earnings by exposing users to lower-paying ads.

Also, the rules are different between Adsense for Search and Google Custom Search as well.

Hi europeforvisitors

Thanks for that - I tend not to use too many ad units on a page for the very reasons you give - low paying adverts or worse - sites that only deliver adverts!

Yet I am trying to experiment to see if I can increase my level of earnings. Pretty difficult to get a combination of quality content AND having AdSense presented in a non spam way .... while getting enough click throws to justify the time spent developing the page.
