Does Competitive Ad Filter Work for Referrals Advertisers?

I currently have a company advertising on my site, paying $0.01 per conversion.

This is getting in the way of advertisers who are paying between $2 - $15.

I even manually selected the referrals I want but they still keep creeping in.

I have banned them via the competitive site filter but it doesn't seem to be working.

Very very annoying as I'm losing quite a bit of money and they're gaining a lot of signups. They're earning about $5-$10 each time.

Yesterday, in this thread [webmasterworld.com...] you indicated you were removing AdSense from your websites. I'm glad you changed your mind and decided to stay around.

However, that thread was about the new verification period for some sites for the Referral program and you indicated then you were getting some $0.01 commissions.

If your site has been targeted for this new verification process, I doubt you'll be able to avoid that by placing sites in your competitive sites filter. I would think Google is one step ahead on that matter.

However, if your site is not involved in this new process, be sure you're giving the competitive filter time to take effect.

Hi Farmboy.

I'm still getting referrals for between $2 and $12+ but this one ad keeps sneaking in and converting, each time earning me $0.01.

From what I can tell, this new validation is for websites that have for some reason rang alarm bells, I'm confident my website and the behavior of my visitors wouldn't have any cause for concern.

The competitive ad filter was added last night and 24 hours later they're still showing.

Does the CAF apply to referrals too?

Cheers

Jomaxx

I get tons of referral ads I never selected.

In fact.. I don't even see them being offerred in my adSense Referral interface. They donot seem to be on offer for my country.

But Google seems to geo target them.

Some of them convert quite well..so I guess G knows best ..for now.

You really have no way of having an in-depth knowledge of the behavior of your visitors, especially post-conversion, unless you're somehow controlling or directing your visitors.

That aside, your opinion of your site/activities may be very different from Google's opinion. As evidence, I offer all the "I've been banned" threads by people who thought they were doing nothing wrong.

This is about the 4th thread you've started in the past few days around this same theme of very low commissions for referrals. And this comes about the same time Google announced the new verification period for the referrals program.

You can do with this suggestion what you want, but you might want to consider backing off for a while, taking down these ads that are creating your problems and contacting AdSense support for some clarification and assistance. Then wait until you get a response.

You don't want to end up starting a "I've been banned" thread of your won.

I appreciate what you're saying, but I don't believe google have and cause to ban my website. Well unless unfairly of course.

I'm definitely not going to sit back and allow some IDIOT to continue getting these conversions for $0.01. Taking the place of another advertiser who is happily paying $12 for my traffic.

I only added referrals a couple of days ago to give it a try.

If I were in this 'validation' period then why am I getting paid fully for all of the other ads, other than ones by this company who's website looks really dodgy. I just want to block them and be done with it.

My opinion is that, this company are cheating the system somehow. Or google have set up referrals so that advertisers can abuse publishers.

Also I didn't start most of the other threads, I just took part in them.
