Earnings per click rising

Is Google rewarding me for high CTR?

I've seen a steady increase in my average earnings per click. Since I can't control this I presume Google does. Is this a reward for a good CTR? What else could it be?

As far as I am aware Google does not 'reward" publishers for a high ctr. September generally brings in more high quality advertisers and healthier competition for some niches, so maybe you too are experiencing these seasonal benifits.

Sad but true, the gains you see today may not be there for too long. From memory the plunge again after christmas.

Maybe so, but I've seen a 71% rise in EPC from the last week in August to the last week in September. I have only been in Adsense since July and deliver a rapidly growing number of page impressions. I like the rising EPC, but I'd like to understand anything that I can't control.

The general EPC number that gets reported in your stats can be very deceptive, for instance when CPM ads are running on your site.

CPM ads often result in a depressed CTR but higher earnings. That can make it look like your EPC has increased.

Even if your CTR seems to be stable, it likely would be higher if no CPM ads were being shown.

But at any rate, if your income is up, congratulations!

Maybe you're onto something with CPM. Actually my CTR has slid more than I think makes sense. eCPM is not growing as much as EPC, but is growing. Ours is a niche audience that would appeal to site targeting. I'll look and see if we are being identified as a site targeting option.

From memory the plunge again after christmas.

I find that my figures plunge between November and Christmas

I think one of the changes that happens in Sept-Dec is that there are more people thinking about shopping big time - Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, vacations, winter clothes, etc. Naturally they are more likely to click on ads.

Plus, sometimes the ad displayed can trigger a higher CTR even if you did not do any other change.
