Is MIE automatically updating to an Ad Blocker default?

Suddenly couldn't see Google ads... had to uncheck it manually

A friend this morning contacted me because it appeared MIE had updated in the night (she gets automatic updates) and she noticed she couldn't view any Google ads except the AdLinks (but then a blank page if she clicked on any link in the AdLinks box).

She eventually found a box had been default checked and she unchecked it... but she is certain that it was related to some update. She had done NOTHING to install any ad blocker or change her settings, etc. before this happened. She has version 7.0.5730.11

Does anyone else have automatic updates? If this is indeed the case, and MIE is suddenly defaulting to an adblocker, how many users do you think would be affected? I don't know how many receive automatic updates, but my friend tells me this is the only way to receive security updates in a timely manner.

I'd love some input -- I'm a little concerned here.

What box did she uncheck?

I'm having an issue today where ads are not showing on one of my sites. It's happening in IE and Firefox, and Google's not registering any impressions, so it could just be a problem on the Google end.

She made the correction in tools --> ie pro7 --> preferences

But I doubt this is your problem, because hers occurred across ALL sites (other people's too) and only in MIE. With FireFox, all ads showed up fine.

IE Pro is an add-on - it's not part of Internet Explorer. One of its features is an adblocker - I don't remember if it's on by default. But that wouldn't be affected by any IE Update - maybe there was an IE Pro update, and that would only affect people who have it installed.

IE7 Pro is a MS IE 7 Addon:

I've never used it myself, so I'm not sure how it works as far as Ad Blocking goes.

*Edit: nevermind Netmeg beat me to it :)

Sounds like her IE Pro automatically updated then -- and set the default to block ads! She did NOTHING and suddenly this morning they were blocked. It alerted her attention since she is also a publisher.

Well, wonder how many people install this IE Pro? Hopefully not too many.

Thanks for clearing it up somewhat.

Anybody out there have this installed with auto-updates and see the same thing happen?
