Considering AdSense - Questions

Curious about when it makes sense

As I'm new to AdSense I was wondering at what traffic level it would make sense to display AdSense words?

I have a site of about 64 pages and wanted to get some idea as to ROI in the event I decided to spend the time to change those pages and include AdSense ads.

I wrote and tried to get at least a sense of what percentage of the AdWord cost someone would receive if the ad was clicked on from Google. NADA! Never saw so much double talk from a non-attorney!

I am curious if AdWords, (which I have run myself in the past) that was costing the advertiser from one to two dollars per click that Google would be paying the AdSense displaying website. Is it in the (1) 5-10%, (2) 15-25% or would it be closer to the 50% range.:)

Most of the AdWords in my site theme would cost over $1.25 to $2.50 per click so putting it that way, what traffic level would be needed to obtain a decent return given a 5-10 CRT?

I have been reading threads and I've been collecting information before deciding but that has been slow. I thought I might be a little more forward.

Appreciate impute.

Nobody knows :) AdSense does not disclose what the split is.

As for earnings, it will wildly vary. A 64 page site may earn enough to qualify for the $10K Fedex club with enough traffic, or it might make enough to cover hosting. You also do not know what specific on-page keywords AdSense is targeting, nor how they will determine smart pricing, so it is extremely difficult to even guess.

Sign up for AdSense - it is fre - and try it out yourself. I can tell you that very few people remove AdSense because it isn't earning enough :)

Great points Jenstar.

I would test it on one or 2 specific "landing" pages - and drive traffic from an adwords account - watch it for 5 days - and test a reasonable daily budget on your keyword buy - that is the only way to see the ROI.

I would venture to guess that you would need at least 10K to 15K page views a day to get $10K a month. Some people get that many page views and don't make near that. I think 15K is best case for that kind of money.

ogletree,

Then by Extrapolating what you said, I can surmize that option 2 is the correct range, Based on an average between the two cost variants. (and at the low to middle range)

Is that correct?

And if one needs 10M to 15M visitors per day and decides to set up a site(s) to acquire such traffic, how feasible is that. I ask because it seems there are a number of people here that are doing just that. (or think it is not only possible but practical)

What are your thoughts on that?

And by the way, I appreciate your response. Not many could or were willing to give it a try.

Your question was on ROI - and since I=0, why not give it a try?

Unfortunately I does not = 0 my friend.

ROI can be figured either in money or in time. In this case lets consider the time to get from point A to point B. (especially for those setting up sites just for AS)

Or consider a site with 5% of the needed traffic for those considering AS as an income. (which I know some here are doing or considering)

The time and work involved with the revamping of the site would prove to be tremendous. Even if the site was added to daily as Brett suggested in his A-Z post, this would take many hours, weeks, months or even year(s) of work.

In the end, AS could have changed drastically, either for the better or worst.

Before making any decision one should look at all possibilities and proceed from there. That's why I'm asking these questions and hopefully it may shed some light for others as well.

Thanks for the input.

Why don't you do what howiejs suggests? Just try Adsense on some pages and wait for about a month to get a good estimate of your potential earnings if you implement Adsense site-wide.

I wouldn't be surprised if you decided to implement Adsense site-wide the next day. :)

I agree with his post and before making sweeping changes I will definitely do that.

I'm working on a special page idea as we speak for that landing page.
