Hi guys,

I just wanted to update from my thread a few weeks ago on low eCPM.

I did a ton of research, spoke with a google rep who give some great info as well as listened to all your suggestions on here.

First I removed ALL adsense from my sidebars. I replaced them all with large adblocks within the content.

The Google rep told me, the higher the chance of conversion (based on page content) the higher the CPC and ECPM. (which we pretty much knew). She then went on to say a webpage on cameras will earn less per click than a page on camera reviews. I felt she kinda give too much away with that example but hey it makes sense, a person looking for reviews is more likely looking to purchase.

If you have a page on software, that's being served software ads, then my advice would be to mention words like 'download' and 'review'. I'm not suggesting spam the page with irrelevant crap. I think the stronger the indication that the user is looking to take an action, the higher the cpc.

Since implementing these small changes, my profits have been consistently 400% higher. Incredible.

Never underestimate the power of adblocks, I did, for a long time.

Good luck

Thanks! Did you test different ad block sizes? Which seems to work best? I put a 300x250 on my home page in the most prominent location possible and WOW... great re$ult$ ;-)

You do need to be careful that the quality of clicks doesn't get lowered by ad placement (from more accidental, or mistaken/misunderstanding clicks) and thus get you smart priced.

But yes, ad location can make a big difference.

I've been doing more research and thinking more and more about eCPM.

If I could share one tip, it would be to think logically.

I personally believe eCPM is determined by a number of mainly 'logical factors' such as where the ads are placed and how many other links are on the page. Logically the more links, the less chance of a click on the ad, therefore lower ecpm.

I've done a little test with this and made 2 almost identical pages but one of the pages I placed tons more links, the ecpm for that page was much lower than the other. Both pages received roughly the same amount of visitors etc.

Logically a person has more chance of seeing and thus clicking on an ad if the adwords are within the content and that's probably why the ecpm on a large block is so much higher than a skyscraper which is usually placed in a sideblock.

My profits are still much higher and some days now exeeding 400%.

It's worth playing with the ads to maximise profits.

Hi all,

Wouldn't it be nice if we could show our index page (or whichever) in the hot spot page and have it automatically place ads for our consideration and just to see how it might look if we chose to use the hotspots. Then we could change the page (on our computer) and upload to the server.

Ahhhh, dream on, dream on!
