Are You Having A Quiet Friday?

Has the Net stopped & everyone got off?

Where's all the traffic gone today?

I'm not complaining about AdSense, my overall traffic is way down today so far by at least 50%, in fact, my metrics are nowhere as near a weekend day it's that slow.

Checked the SERPs to make sure I hadn't been blown out, everything looks normal.

Holidays, more natural disasters, what else?

It's a long weekend in Canada, many people probably took today off to make it a 4-day weekend and are heading to the lake.

It's a bit early to tell (it isn't even 8 a.m. Google time), but I don't see anything unusual. Still, this IS the first weekend in August, which is a big vacation month in much of North America and Europe.

Lots of traffic. Little AdSense activity.

It's not too early for me to tell, 16 hours of my day are gone already and overall traffic is way down. As I said, I'm not complaining about AdSense, I'm saying all my sites' metrics across the board are at a much lower than usual level.

Even though it is holiday for many there are still a substantial amount of people at work, the world doesn't stop just because a few go on their holidays.

I didn't know about the Canadian holiday and there doesn't seem to be any others of major significance...just a strangely quiet day for me then?

Average traffic (maybe a little less), but no adsense. At least for me!

Same here. Clicks are way down and I can't see any reason why.

Our traffic is very strong today, driven by recall news and other topical stuff. All the ad networks are a little anemic, though. It is, after all, Friday in August and here on the USA's East Coast, dogs are sticking to the sidewalk and their owners are headed for the nearest beach or lake if at all possible.

Friday afternoon is rapidly becoming a part of the weekend in much of the U.S., though thankfully the federal government still pretends to be open for business, enabling its employees to surf their heads off.

TribalFusion even went so far as to send an email to its publishers a week or two ago warning that sales would be light in August.

In other words ... chill.

You would think that everyone would be inside trying to stay away from the heat, and playing on the net! LOL. As for me, I just am sitting in the house where it is 68 degrees with air conditioning blasting in my face. : )

Being a musher, and loving the cold, I HATE the heat. All of my dogs are just sleeping in the shade. They all look dead. LOL (just kidding)

I've been looking under my rock to see where all the visitors went. I shook adwords account hoping to rattle some visitors lose. I'm going to start barking on the corner soon to get folks to come in. CTR a bit low too adding to the misery.

And referral ads are rarely showing too :(

Does anyone know how to send money to AdSense?

With the way things are going today, I'm going to owe THEM by the end of the day.

I searched Yahoo News for "holiday weekend" and to my surprise, I found that many US states are having a "sales tax holiday" this weekend. The sales tax exemption for the most part applies to school supplies. My guess is that retailers are taking advantage of the tax break by having back-to-school sales.

A quick search found that quite a few states are doing this, including Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Virginia, North & South Carolina, Louisiana, Tennessee and Alabama, to name a few. There are probably others.

Meanwhile, Canadians are celebrating Civic Holiday, and the Ontario Provincial Police estimate that "About one million cars are likely to hit the road in Southern Ontario alone this holiday weekend."

So there are a few reasons why there might be a lower volume of internet traffic this weekend.

I'm starting to think there's something going on at the moment. My referral ads have been all blank since yesterday. My link units all say "Home Page ¦ IRS Home Page ¦ Free Home Page" etc, whereas they are normally very targeted. My partner's link units are targeted okay, but they are NOT CLICKABLE at all. I've got a higher than usual number of impressions (for the date and time) and a WAY lower number of clicks.

All of my online stuff is down the last 3 weeks. Adsense wasn't that bad until the last 4 or 5 days.

This is the slowest summer I can remember online for me and today was a cemetery. All of my search rankings that were good are still very good, so there isn't much I can do but wait it out and keep typing.

And to cap it all my server has now been brought down by a DOS attack!

I'm the oldest. I used to program on a General Mills Electronics Group computer that had actual little metal donuts for memory - you had to sew them in.

Here's a link with a picture of me (not) debugging the computer:

Netmeg, congrats! you are as old as dirt! Maybe we can get together and talk bits, nibbles & bytes :)

It appeared I got some sort of click dump yesterday while I was at the pub. visitors were low but at least CPM held steady for the day.

I still have a few PDP8s my garage (did I buy them from you Meg?) and a PDP11/73 that I'm still using for a CAD application.

I'm sensing there may be something wrong with this!

Nibbles... I miss nibbles... AND octal! Older than dirt?

Could be. I sold lots, and then when DEC discontinued them, convinced my boss to buy the entire remaining inventory from them, and lived off the commission of a captive market for some years.

What a topsy turvy few days, this makes a roller coaster ride look flat!

Even though visitor numbers appeared to be down plus my DOS attack, at the end of it Friday had a reasonable day's earnings.

Saturday saw my highest Saturday earnings of the year, well into triple digits, and then came Sunday with my second lowest clicks day of the year only just beating New Year's Day by a very small margin.

Bah, summer holidays and heatwaves, who needs 'em? :-)

Topsy turvy is correct. Yesterday (Sunday) eCPM was almost at its lowest for 3 months whereas the previous Sunday had the highest eCPM in the last 3 months. Could they be playing catch up with the reporting?

Sunday was my best day of the month so far. Maybe my readers don't go to church or play golf? :-)
