Adsense display issue on some computers

Adsense is causing a serious display issue - but only on some computers.

Imagine my horror when I visited my daughter and sat down to look at my site on her computer, only to find most pages totally messed up.

She has the same make of computer as I do, working in 1280x1024 resolution on Windows XP. Yet my site on her comp is a disaster, with table columns pushed down and lots of sideways scrolling - AND the google rectangle and skyscraper ads are appearing as gray boxes with blue links, instead of the Adsense color palette specified in my ad code.

When I remove these ads from the page, the page magically straightens up and behaves correctly, even though I still have 300 wide content in the 300x250 spot and 160 in the 160 skyscraper right sidebar.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on? I make a good living with AdSense, and never dreamed that people could be experiencing this sort of issue on their computers. I get a high traffic volume, but a high bounce rate according to google analytics - now I'm wondering if that could be caused by the display issue.

I've tried various fixes, even changing the table layout to mostly CSS, which again, looks great on my comp, and my husband's comp, but hits the ditch when my daughter views it. The only thing that solves this is taking Adsense off the page completely...and that's not acceptable.

I'd sure appreciate any advice on possible causes and fixes.

What browsers are you using? There is a difference in how IE6 and IE7 display pages. That's weird about the colors. IE has settings where a user can override specified fonts, or specify their own CSS file to use with sites. I wasn't aware of any color overrides, but maybe there are.

Try IE vs. Firefox on your computer, and your daughter's.

In Google Analytics (the new interface), there is a page where you can get a browsers report, and then a subreport showing bounces. You can see whether screen resolution is correlated with higher bounce rate.

Hi, Steve,
Thanks for your reply. I have tried IE and Firefox, on my computers and my daughters - same thing; the page messes up on her comp in both browsers.

I will definitely check into the browser stats in analytics - thanks for the the tip!
