403 Forbidden error

I just started getting this error where my AdSense should be. I wrote to Google, got one canned response, and that was it. I'm not a big player with Adsense, barely make $2.00 but it pays for the message board. Anyone else seeing this problem? Any ideas if it's on Google's end, or mine?

I saw this once on my site. I clicked reload and it went away. That is AdSense came back.

jchampliaud, thanks. I tried all the easy stuff--it's been showing that error for 4 days now.

Joe,

Try this. In your AdSense account, go to AdSense setup. Go to AdSense for Content and generate some code. Any code will do, so just keep clicking "continue" until you get to the code page. Copy and paste the code into a blank text file, then save the file on your Desktop. Rename the text file to "test.html" (make sure it doesn't still have the .txt extension. Then launch the test.html file from your desktop. You might get a warning from your browser, so click the buttons to allow the blocked content.

The result is that you should see a Google ad. It might be in Chinese, but it should still be an ad.

A better test would be to upload the test.html file to your website and launch it from there, but even from your desktop it will accomplish the same thing.

The point of this test is to run the code without any other code on the page. If your test page works all right, then the problem is some other JavaScript on your web page that's interfering with the AdSense code. If the test.html page does not work, then there is a problem with your AdSense account.

I hope this helps :)

I referred Joe to WebmasterWorld for this specific issue as I recall someone else experiencing this sometime within the past couple of months. I just can't find the thread through a search here. The person who posted here got his issue resolved, but it took almost a week, if I remember correctly.

I learned of Joe's issue when he posted about it on the Help Forums of the message board service that hosts his site and my site. We do not have access to the server that hosts our boards.

My board is much larger than Joe's and I have AdSense in about 100 locations on my board. I've never experienced any issues with AdSense, fortunately.

Because this issue has been reported here previously and it ultimately corrected itself without intervention from the publisher, I maintain there is some issue with Google, not the publisher's site.

Well if it's an issue with Google then it's not system-wide. I just checked four of my websites and they are all displaying ads. The test I suggested earlier will let him quickly figure out if there's an issue with his publisher ID.

Also, you can find more discussion on the subject if you do a Google search for: adsense 403 error

That's the thread I was trying to find. Thanks for finding it.

As you see, it was an issue on Google's end although they never said what was causing it to happen.

Joe, keep onto Google about this and you may want to include a copy of the referenced post from May.

All AdSense publishers should be concerned about this as it could happen to any of us and when it does, it looks like it will take a week or more to be resolved.

timwestla,

I tried as much as I could with other scripts---as stated above, I cannot access the server, but I can remove my own customizations.

The ad code is good--I placed on another site and it works just fine.

I took every line of script off my Board except for the ad code, and it still won't work. However, if I copy the entire Board code using 'view source' and paste it into a text doc, change to HTM, it works just fine.

Well then like MyNewPC said, all you can do is keep asking Google about it. Be polite, but persistent. If they don't answer within 48 hours, write to them again. Be sure to include the results from any of your investigations.

Joe, I see your AdSense code is now working again. Please let us know if you found out from Google what the issue was.

I don't know what fixed it. I was out of town last week on business. When I got home last night, I had an email from Google that said it's fixed, but no word of how, what or why.

It certainly would be helpful if AdSenseAdvisor looked into this for us. We've had two reports of this, each time it's taken a week to be resolved and the publisher was given no explanation by Google. All the while, Google is causing this horrible looking error to appear on the website with no earnings generated.
