Anyone have a list of alternatives to adsense plus pro's / cons' user experiences?

There are very few agencies providing advertising for publishers these days, most having been bought up by the few.

You could try Casale and Valueclick, though I warn you, rates paid to advertisers have fallen through the floor this past year.

rates paid to advertisers

Rates paid to publishers, shurely?

Established AdSense alternatives include:

Inline Links
Kanoodle
IntelliTXT

(Makes it look like your computer has been hit by a drive-by malware download, but some publishers don't seem to mind).

Contextual Adpanels
Yahoo YPN
MSN AdCenter
AdSonar

Behavioural Advertising
Revenue Science

Text Links
AdBrite
Text Link Ads

Other
Chitika eMiniMalls

Probably quite a few others in each category.

That's really dificult to answer. The level of success varies from one site to another. For example, I never had any good luck with Commission Junction, but others swear by it. I have had mediocre success with Amazon, but others say it's no good. What it comes down to is the old saying that "the proof is in the pudding." If you find a program that interests you, sign up for it (that's almost always free). Then add some of their links to your pages and wait a couple of weeks. If you start making money then you found a winner. If the links don't convert, then move on to another.

Has anyone out there used Yahoo? If so, what is your experience with them?

Anybody using ContextWeb? They launched this month, but I think somebody here already recommended it and I am curious how well it works with AdSense.

The idea is that they sell a PART of your inventory at a fixed (CPM) price you want and the rest (what they can't sell for you) is going through AdSense. Kind of like a real market, with hedging. (Is that allowed, by the way, in terms of AdSense TOS?)

Yahoo PN pays better per click, but the CTR is very low for my sites.

We applied to and were accepted at Yahoo very early on, but when I read the fine print in their acceptance agreement contract, there is one place that says, in effect, that they have ALL RIGHTS to use your site content, however they like, FOREVER EVEN IF YOU LATER QUIT! Since we have a ton of original copyrighted content, our attorney recommended against it, and we weren't about to agree to that. Their policy may have changed since then, but we simply haven't had the time to check it out again.
