If I go through my past 3 years stats I see july as the worst month. Everyone knows that US traffic is important and summer is here. Most advertisers reduce spending at this time due to start of summer.

So how do I maximizing revenue during this time? Share your tips and experience

Im happy since the so called summer in the UK has been rather wet, people are spending more time on their PC's :)

[My eCPM has been creeping downward over the last few days (it's now the 4th), mostly because CTR has been somewhat lower than usual. At the same time, affiliate bookings have been very strong. My interpretation: Casual lookers are distracted right now, but people who need to make purchases (e.g., people with summer vacations coming up) can't afford to let their planning slide. ]

I'm seeing the same thing EFV and I too have a travel planning site. I have quite a drop-off of UK visitors which I interpret as a response to the recent terror troubles there.

My traffic has actually been up slightly for the month to date, despite the July 4 holiday in the U.S. The only negative note has been the AdSense clickthrough rate.

My epc was great for the three days prior to the 4th, it was amazing on the 4th, and has tanked afterwards.

My site has community info and people were looking up 4th of July activities.

Smokin' hot here. Site traffic is taking off, eCPM is higher than normal, CTR too.

We're lucky, due to some timely content about a very popular topic, and we're showing up #1 in Google searches for the topic, so... very very good, breaking records. We expect it to drop off soon, though.

After being well below average for CTR, eCPM and eanrings through the 4th, the last three days have been better than normal, with today being exceptionally good.

I think it's just my niche, but June was pretty bad, but after July 4 weekend, things usually go pretty well. A report I saw said that 48% of Americans aren't taking summer vacations this year, so, for those of us trying to make a living, that's probably a good thing, though the long-term trend of Americans working too much is disheartening.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to better days ahead, hopefully, because the last few weeks of June and the 1st 4 days of July were pretty awful.

I am very impressed by people's claims here that they are earning thousands a month with Adsense. But what puzzles me is this:

HOW do you reach that high figure?

I mean, my major site attracts around 1000 uniques every month, and yet my average earnings are nowhere near that amount. I am lucky if I make over £200 per month!

So how do you do it? Do you put up multiple websites, do you carefully tailor ad content, or what?

I would love to know, as I desperately need to earn much more money than I am making at present with my true ghost stories site.

Thanks.

"my major site attracts around 1000 uniques every month"

I think its plain to see that the way to increase your income is to increase your traffic. They folks who are making big money are gettin many thousands of unique visitors per day, not per month.

Now increaseing your traffic 10 fold may not be so simple, but that is the road to more income.

Traffic is obviously a big factor, but topic can be important, too. Are people who read true ghost stories actively looking to buy things (as they might be if, say, they were reading a product review or researching a trip)?

If you haven't already done so, you might want to consider adding a section with in-depth travel information for people who are interested in ghosts: e.g., pages about "ghost tours," castles with ghosts, hotels that claim to have ghosts, etc. Such a site might well get publicity and inbound links (thereby getting more traffic) while attracting better-paying ads and generating more ad clicks.

Note: I know we don't do "site reviews" here, but the above comment isn't a site review (since I haven't seen the site under discussion): It's an example of how a topic that may seem "non-commercial" could be given a more commercial and profitable twist.

I am having a great month with adsense. The reason why? Well I found some cool ways to get links, and whatever the content is king people say links bring in the dollars...

"...whatever the content is king people say links bring in the dollars..."

Content is more of a long-term game plan. If you found some other way to generate traffic, it might not last forever but it can't be denied that "the proof is in the pudding." Whatever makes money and doesn't get you banned is great!

Now would you like to share this method with the rest of us? Or you could sticky mail me with your tactic if you prefer not to make it public ;-)

I think it depends on your website's topic and the age group of your visitors. On a few of my sites I've found the age group of my visitors to be very young so June, July, and August are usually my best months by far because kids are out of school and on the computer more.

>>>I am very impressed by people's claims here that they are earning thousands a month with Adsense. But what puzzles me is this:

Build a good site that people want.

>>>I mean, my major site attracts around 1000 uniques every month, and yet my average earnings are nowhere near that amount. I am lucky if I make over £200 per month!

I am not surprised. EG my site gets 4 to 5k uniques daily from google searches alone. You need that much traffic to get "thousands of $ per month. In my case 3+

>>>So how do you do it? Do you put up multiple websites, do you carefully tailor ad content, or what?

You build a site or sites that are head and shoulders above the rest. There is no secret. Thats all. But the problem is that not everyone can do that! If you do then incoming links and so search engine succsess is almost gauranteed. If not maybe plumbing or car valeting is your thing? There are no tricks. Or at least non that are going to be long term.

>>>I would love to know, as I desperately need to earn much more money than I am making at present with my true ghost stories site.

Would your true ghost stories site make a good best selling book in the real publishing world? If so then get it published! But equally if not then you answered your own question as to why you only have a small amount of traffic...

I'm sure 50% of you are doing BETTER this month, so please don't post here. :)

Anyone else doing worse this month? This is my worst month this year so far. All the other months were not bad. June was looking like it was headed downward but this month...ughhh!

Amazingly this month of July, I've been getting 200 plus per day compared to the usual 150 per day.

I'm surprised others are getting low earnings for this month of July. I guess every site is different.

You are already doing great if you manage to make £200 on 1000 uniques. That's 20 cents PER UV. Just find a way to increase traffic, and if you manage 20 cents per uv, you can afford some very high quality traffic.

My adsense dropped significantly.
The good thing is now i can concentrate on my full-time job.
Hopefully, my boss will give me increment by end of this year!

I have quite a drop-off of UK visitors which I interpret as a response to the recent terror troubles there.

Hahaha. A towed away car and a man with a burning head barely constitutes terrorism, never mind "terror". We had to deal with a thirty-six year armed campaign from separatists, remember?

I mean, my major site attracts around 1000 uniques every month, and yet my average earnings are nowhere near that amount. I am lucky if I make over £200 per month!

That's awesome! Now imagine you get 4000 uniques a day - that means you'll be making £24,000 per month!

So far, halfway through the month, my daily July earnings are behind those from June. But even at that rate, July 2007 stands to be my second most successful Adsense month ever.

Traffic three times higher, eCPM up about 10%. A very good combination.

you might have plateaued with your ghost stories site.
Try adding articles on travel places with "high ghost counts" (ghosts per thousand visits; gCPM)
High gCPM should lead to high eCPM! ;)

Better than June. I think its picking up after the June crackdown of MFAs. Hope this upward trend is not due to MFA v 2.0

It's always very interesting to read these threads as it is so clear these changes are far from universal. I set earnings records in May and June, but my July has been absolutely horrible - average daily earnings halved.

It's due partially to lower traffic (related to summer, probably) but primarily to a drastically lower CPM. And I have two sites that are not very closely related, yet it's consistent across both. Horrible.

But the fact that others are doing well gives me hope that maybe "my advertisers" will flip the switch sometime soon.

BTW, love the gCPM comment. :)

The fact that Webmaster World's forums are much quieter than usual should be a good hint that a lot of people (including advertisers and online shoppers) are in the mountains, on a lake, or at the seaside. :-)

July was a little slower than June (in terms of eCPM) until this last weekend, when eCPM took a big jump. Since Saturday, eCPM has been 30% above the July 1-13 average despite only a modest increase in clickthrough rate. I have a suspicion as to why that may be happening, but I might be killed if I told. :-)
