H@!l...
I'm working on a software project (NOT software solution, its something like everyday use for developer/programmer) and kinda curious if adsense is going to for my project website?
Thank you

"Going to" what?

Adsense is a solution that can work with many different types of websites with different types of content. The only true way to know if Adsense can be successful on your website, is to build a site full of great content and add Adsense to it.

By the way, welcome to WebmasterWorld!

It's only going to work if you get some content.

If people are there primarily to grab a download and run, then that's probably exactly what they're going to do...

Many advertisers (like me) use 'free' as a negative keyword.

Of course it has some contents... Homepage sure has software features etc etc what...
And I've heard that website for programmers does not generate much revenue... is this true also?

In your situation, the content on your site may not matter.

You must honestly consider, WHY your site visitors are visiting your site. Visitor intent is important to success of AdSense, and I can't stress that enough.

If they are there exclusively to download your open source software and play with it, then that's exactly what they will do, grab it and run. In my opinion you will experience low CTR and whatever clicks you get will probably not convert thus earning you fractions of a penny.

However, I can see if you add content about the type of software your open source software is (relating to the purpose of the product, i.e. what it does), then perhaps people will visit looking for that TYPE of software, but not YOUR software, and will click out on the ads. That's assuming there are companies advertising paid non-open source versions of this kind of software.

Content about your software isn't enough to pull that off. You'll have to write content about all the wonderful things that that KIND of software does etc.

If making money off AdSense is your goal, then another approach is to think of scenarios that can lead to purchases then recreate those situations on a new site.

Here's a few thoughts:

- write about how and why you came to develop / distribute your software.

- write about all the history, features, revisions and improvements to your software.

- write about why your software is better than any competing software in the whole world.

- write about the many applications for your software, and what all it can be used for.

- write about the success stories of the people who have downloaded and used your software, or solicit testimonials from them.

- write about future plans to upgrade this software, or develop/distribute new software.

- if you wrote the software yourself, write about the development tools / environment that you like to use.

- Solicit questions / comments / reviews for your software and website.

From all this, perhaps even more ideas will flow.

The worst they can do is say "your application is declined."
